Bulk Making Base Liquid?

I have just ordered all the things I need to try my hand at DIY liquid making. Nic, PG, VG, Flavouring etc

With the amount I've bought I worked out that providing spillage and waste is kept to a minimum and I some how manage to get the flavour % spot on first go (doubtful but who knows) I can make 30 10ml bottles which is what I always buy (10ml bottles not 30 at a time lol)

My original plan was to just make 1 batch of 30 bottles in one go and store them away for when I need them or maybe give some to friends for feedback.

But then being the lazy kinda guy I am I thought to myself, could I bulk mix all the Nic, PG & VG to make my 30 bottles and then add flavour as and when I need a bottle. This would also mean that I could maybe try multiple flavourings at a later date without setting up my mixing table again. I could just get my bulk mix out, put 8ml in a bottle, add my 2 of flavour (just examples) shake and steep or vape depending on requirement.

Don't even know if that would be a logical thing to do but that is why I have come to the gurus of vaping.

On the basis that it is a pretty decent idea what is the shelf life of the mix? I imagine the ingredients have a pretty long shelf life when sealed but once the mix has been created the bottle won't be sealed.

Hope my post even makes sense and I look forward to the responses

This makes perfect sense to me ... and is in fact exactly what I do myself. Your VG/PG ratio and nic strength will change though that's not as critical to me as others here. But it does save a shedload of time.

As an example I make up 250mls of base using 45mls of PG nic 72mg/ml and 205mls of VG ... this gives me 82/18 at 13mg/ml.

When I mix this base with 10% flavour the resulting juice is 70/30 12mg
When I mix this base with 20% flavour the resulting juice is 65/35 11mg

That'll do for me, eh doodles ?

I just mix a few hundred ml of my base in a jam-jar and use it as needed.

Your plan will work better when you are sure what level of flavour you are going to use and if you are happy to have the same percentage flavour in each mix or are happy for your nic levels to fluctuate.

Personally I would do some small scale experimenting with this batch of supplies then intruduce some shortcuts when you are happy with your mixes.

I mix several months of vg/pg at my prefered level 80/20 then use that to make two or three 100 ml batches when required. Some people buy pre mixed base with nicotine which is in effect what you plan. It works for them so it may work for you.

As scrumpox says.. It's so much quicker than measuring everything every time, less to clean up afterwards too.

I like my finished juices to be around 18mg. I mix the base at 70/30 VG/PG, 18.5mg, most my mixes are under 10% flavoring, some as low as 3 and 4% (really strong flavoring concentrates) so this leaves me room to play.

I make more test samples than repeat mixes, a lot of them, and it makes it quick and easy.

yeah that's true.
once I get my mixes right it'd be easier to do this but some flavours recommend between 3 and 20% so it can fluctuate a lot.

maybe this sort of idea would work better say if it was being sold more so than personal use.

I'm sure I will figure it out once my ingredients arrive

I do not like my flavours too strong and all my mixes are 5% or 6% flavour but it took me a few mixing sessions to discover this.
I could now probably move onto mixing my base with nicotine without any problems and probably will.
I have always advised against it for new mixers when they ask about buying pre mixed nic base (with little success I must add) because of the lack of flexibility when learning what works for you.

good luck.

definitely.
figured out the % for some flavours already I think so can bulk make the mix for them which will be good.
Capella recommends 15% flavour for the flavours I've bought so I can bulk mix my bases and just add whatever flavour I fancy as and when :)

Hi scrumpox just a quick question, sorry if I'm hi-jacking but might be useful to the op.
I have made a base of 80 vg 20 pg @ 6mg, if I use 8ml of it and add 2ml of flavouring, is the strength of the total 10ml now 4.8mg? Basically a 1/5th less in strength?
Also, what would the pg work out at?

Sorry if this causes you a headache but I'm struggling to get my head round it, think I'm on the right lines though.
Cheers.

You had 8ml at 6mg/ml, now you have 10ml at 4.8mg/ml - spot on.
Assuming that your flavourings are all PG based (most are) then you're adding 20ml of PG, so your final ratio will be 64VG/36PG
No headache, fairly simple maths ;)
