burnt rubber taste Evod and Protank 2 coils

Did you do a 'no wick' dry burn without liquid, to test the coils? We protank/evod users all do a 'dry burn', but we are living on borrowed time really. Sooner or later, because these tanks use rubber insulaters, and the coils have very short legs, someone (this time, unluckily you) is going to burn rubber and get that awful taste, which is very hard to get rid of once it's been scorched. Doesn't seem to happen every time with these tanks. If you must do a dry burn with protank/evods best to use a low voltage setting and only burn in 1 - 2 second bursts, with a little rest between each burst.

Yeah, I do the dry burn to test and get rid of any factory residue on the wire and silica. I guess it makes sense really that the 5 wrap coils are burning the grommet. But even when i torch the coils (with silica in the coil) and then build, fill up, let soak for 10 mins, then take a hit, it still tastes of rubber. Maybe it's what you guys are saying, that once burned, always tastes of rubber....? Anywhere you can buy the rubber grommets from?

+1 for NR-R-NR wire. Helps with the rubbery taste. However best just order a few packs of "authentic" kanger heads from SlowTack.

Being the cheapo economist that I am...I'm always looking for ways to repair than throw away :)

This burnt rubber taste on the evod and protank coils is very annoying. Looking hard for some replacements.

Just watched a vid by rip tripper and he was saying to never dry burn when recoiling pro tanks or evods as u will burn the rubber and get that burnt taste.think it's just a case of luck if u burn it or not
