You might have read my review on China Grass wicking with NatureVape coils, sure enough I've moved on to try this stuff in rebuildables.

I'm fairly new to the Spheroid and Heron and I'm completely won over by them, perhaps my ideal set ups along with the Vaporshark rDNA30. I've given the Heron a few builds, mostly without the fluff and using Muji cotton wicks. The results in terms of flavour and vapour production are tremendous but I get a lot of gurgling. I can't get through a tank without getting juice in my mouth and having to fiddle about, clearly something is not right for me.

With the arrival of the Spheroid 8 days ago I first tried using the recommended fluff and silica set up ... initially, incredible results, a real flavour machine which immediately led me to try the fluff in the Heron ... after all, it's a giant Spheroid, right?

Using the Heron as it was designed to be used, the results were also impressive. I'm no fan of silica however, so my next sets up were with Muji cotton in microcoils, using the fluff.

Still the wicking was my problem and I went through lots of trials with the length and thickness of the Muji cotton. Still found gurgling in the Heron and some wicking issues in the Spheroid. The problem is the cotton is just too damn limp and flaccid, it flops about inside, it collapses on itself away from the fluff and sidewalls, and into the vapourising chamber producing mouthfuls of juice and a very poor vape. It just isn't man enough for the job.

So China Grass came back into my reckoning - the fibres are very long and much stiffer than cotton, it keeps its shape better, it wicks like a train. Not as easy to work with as Muji but I'd rather spend a few seconds more getting the set up right in order to enjoy a longer and problem free vaping session. I have microcoils in both Spheroid and Heron, I cleaned them out, dry burned and set up with China Grass wicks. Immediately the difference was apparent, you can shape the wicks into a "U" and even when soaked in juice they hold that shape. Pressing the Heron tank down or screwing the Spheroid tank into place, I felt a whole lot more confident that the long, strong, fibrous nettles would stay where they're supposed to be, where they're most effective.

The results have been nothing less than amazing! No gurgling, no juice in the mouth, no fiddling about and outstanding flavour! I can vape the entire tank without touching it, right to the hint of dry hit which tells me I'm out of juice. Not my normal way, but I can chain vape until I'm dizzy with not a hint of a wicking issue, it keeps up and the Vaporshark delivers consistency in every hit. When I refill the tank, the wicks are still in the perfect shape I set out with ... I know from my experience with NV coils, this China Grass is really durable. Bit more time to set up, but they're going to last. I can just pad them down with tissue and move onto the next juice. This is cotton on viagra!

Flavour is subjective but I find the China Grass really opens up a juice, makes the taste transparent and doesn't mute the high notes as I find cotton does, even Muji cotton. Leigh at Plumeblu describes the flavour as brighter and I know exactly what he means. As much as I like the flavour from cotton, I really do, it's a different experience with China Grass - for me, a better one. Your mileage may be different, you might prefer silica or rayon.

I don't pretend to be an expert builder and you may not have the wicking issues with cotton that I've experienced. If it ain't broke you don't need to fix it. So this review is a personal perspective about one vaper sorting out his own problems. But if you are getting a little less from your Heron or Spheroid than you expected, you might find that it's the wicking that's underperforming.

I haven't tried China Grass in my Russian 91% yet as the Muji performs really well. I kinda want the cotton to be flaccid and just sit above the juice channels and I wouldn't want the China Grass's strength. So maybe it's not the right wick for Kayfun types.

You can buy a bag of China Grass for £1 from PlumeBlu . Read the notes on how to prepare it.
