I've picked up a few nice items from the Classifieds and Ebay over recent days and weeks and I always like to go though a little getting to know you session by stripping them down, polishing anything metal that I can and giving them a full service ready for active duty. (active duty meaning not much more than getting a place on the vape stand but ready for use nonetheless)

Silver plated springs come up bright and shiny in siliver dip (who'd-a thunk it?) but so do brass springs. I never knew that.

I did read the destructions on the bottle, not good for steels and nickel but definitely good on brass.

What's under the silver plate on my Heron spring I wonder is it steel or brass or something else?

I know plating can get worn away potentially exposing a steel innard but i'm not clear on the effects of silver dip on steel whether it simply dulls the finish or causes it to oxidise. Hmm half a minute, I'll go and perform a quick experiment with one of the family's finest stainless steel teaspoons.......

........well it appears to have no effect on stainless steel (teaspoons) whatsoever so I've left it standing in the dip a while to see if it will come out bent or black or otherwise sorry for itself......

.....feck all (c.10minutes)

Will it clean copper springs? I think so. Half a minute, I've got a couple of short pieces of copper pipe in the van..........

........ahh fcuk going outside, I never made it past the fridge. You'll have to try the copper one yourself, I'm cracking-open a tinny!

Cheers!

I have some silver plated copper parts & innevitably the plate wears off from the contact area but the difference between silver & copper as far as conductivity goes is minute enough. For copper i use a vinager dip, bowl of vinager sat in a bowl of hot water, 10 minutes or so & wallop, shiney copper. That tip was a @Raguri one from way back & it works a treat.
