Been vaping for a couple of months and been trying out different tanks. Gone from protank to a Hcigar Kayfun 3.1 and today i took delivery of a Hcigar Kraken. When i went to the 3.1 this was my first rebuildable and the way i built the coil was with 0.2mm wire, 5 wraps around silica and it came out around 2.0 ohms. This set up has been fantastic and the vape and flavour spot on. I fancied trying a genny and went for the Kraken, i have been trying different coils but struggling! I have been going for a duel coil using the same 0.2mm coil with 6 wraps round cotton wool as this is easier to get down the small holes, ohms are coming out at 0.9 and my Provari and Vamo won't fire as the ohms are too low?
Can anyone advise on a duel coil set up that will give me around 1.4 ohms.....Cheers

Add a couple of wraps to each coil to bump up the ohms.

You could always invest in a Mech mod. It gives you loads more options with low ohms and dual coil etc. And with the right coil way more power than a vv/vw can.

Unregulated is defo the way to go. Much more control without relying on bumping up the power.

When you use a dual coil you halve the total ohms.

so your 2 ohm coil doubled up comes out at 1ohm or thereabouts.

If you use thinner wire, or if you use more wraps of wire, so that each individual coil comes out at about 3ohms, then when you put the two coils on it'll come down to about 1.4-1.5ohms.

If you want to fire 0.9ohms you need a mech mod and you'll also need specialist batteries. If you already have a ProVari then I'd just go for either making each coil higher resistance so that the dual coil comes in at a level it can fire, or just go to a single 1.4ohm ish micro coil setup.

How low will a mod allow you to go

zero ohms.

You don't want to do that though. The lower the resistance of the coil the closer and closer you get to effectively shorting out the battery. As you get lower and lower the amps required skyrocket and if your batteries can't handle the required ampage they overheat and very bad things can happen.

You need specialist 30A rated batteries at around 0.3ohm (current required is around 15 amps - you should use batteries that are double the required current rating as a general rule of thumb) at 0.1ohms current is 40+ amps and I don't think that 80A rated batteries exist.

In practice you won't need to go lower than about 0.5ohms.

So with a mechanical mod would I need different batteries to the one's I use in my Provari and Vamo?

Depends on which batteries you have already and what the current rating of them is.

If you are going to be running coils at about 1ohm you're pulling 4.2amps of current when the battery is fully charged. Lots of good IMR batteries can handle 5amps, but you really want to be using batteries that have double the capacity.

There's a good ohms law caluclator where you can work out how much current cpacity you need here.

A fully charged battery gives you 4.2volts.
