Cutting back on VG

Hi Guys, I've been vaping on and off for more than a year and really struggled in the beginning with uncontrollable coughing. Switching to premium brands and high VG really helped but the costs were quickly mounting (along with all the mods & tanks of course!).
So I stocked up from Chef's Vapour and got ready to create luxurious high VG juices of my own for a fraction of the cost....initial results were very disappointing to say the least with muted flavours and chemical, metallic tastes. Last night and this morning though, I've made some mixes adding some PG and what a difference! Even without steeping I've made a Butterscotch, Caramel and Sweet Cream mix which is lovely and will only get better, if anything I might need to cut back on the flavours as it might be too overpowering. Looking promising and I'm much more optimistic about my future mixes....and no coughing so far!

There is a reason flavour concentrates come in pg and juice used to always be high in pg and it is because it carries flavour.
The fashion for clouds has gone too far as far as I am concerned.

I use 50/50 in my tanks predominantly, and diy at no more than 60/40 at the most.
Mind you I'm also not the slightest bit interested in clouds and find them embarrassing when out.
It's all about the flavour and delivery of nic for me.

Maybe my lungs have changed over the past year, maybe my technique has changed but I could not vape PG liquids without hacking up a lung! This is looking very promising though, big taste, low cost and the ability to tweak recipes would be such a good place to be. If I want to blow big clouds then I can always drip into my Hellboy!

You'll find that higher VG mixes need longer to steep as the flavouring will mix better with higher PG mixes - At least that is what I've found.

It has always been known that PG carries flavour better and that it produces more throat hit. Similarly it has always been known that VG gives a softer, smoother and cloudier vape.
Balancing the two into the right ratio FOR YOU is as much about your build/device's ability to wick it as your preference for the flavour and vapour experience.

My preference is around 70VG 30PG because I don't like any throat hit. My builds don't have any problem wicking that and I find no difference in the amount of flavouring needed against a 50/50 mix. I know that because I mix juices at 50/50 and 60/40 for friends based on what their kit can handle.

It's a little tiresome to be labelled as a fashion victim for such a trivial difference. I wonder why some vapers are so divisive in their attitudes towards other vapers' preferences. Slavishly following what others do is rarely a route to success because vaping is diverse. If you find that higher PG works better for you @db_abz , that's great. :)

Nice work. I know a couple people that wouldn't push past the initial coughing stage and continue on the fags so I'm impressed to see you have done

Good for you mate - there are plenty of places that have recipes I occasionally visit http://www.lediypourlesnuls.com which claims to have a lot of clones which you can make cheap yourself ... Maybe worth a shot to keep the cost down?

I mix at 50/50 because my smoke alarm prefers it. Higher VG and the bloody thing goes off all the time.
It still goes off occasionally at 50/50 so I have to watch the clouds when the wife is in bed.

Thanks for the encouragement. Still haven't smoked this year and the DIY mix is getting better by the day. I'm thinking that a 50:50 mix during the day at work on a Typhoon tank at 20W gives me a decent throat hit at 6mg Nicotine and 70:30 VG : PG at 3mg for evening vaping on a TFV4 on TC allows the big direct to lung draws, best of both worlds if I'm able to mix my own batches.
