I need some advice folks. I need to knockback a fat daddy 22mm washer back to 18.5mm to make it fit into a particular application. I own a lathe but it is a small one and I don't really think that turning it down is an option on my particular lathe, however I think i can use the lathe with a file or other abrasive to do the job.

So what i need to know is what particular abrasive/file and technique is best employed to get the job done? I've googled around a bit but I'm non the wiser really.

Any help appreciated.

I know nothing about lathes, but in the absence of any other help forthcoming, all I can tell you is that the fastest easiest way to get an edge on a dull stainless knife is with a diamond steel.
I hope this helps in a rounfabout way

Bolt and lock nut through the ID I assume and hold it in the chuck as concentric as possible, then three choices.
If the lathe is up to it a carbide tip cutting tool in tool post is the easiest way, 0.5mm at a time. Failing that take a file and whilst watching all your limbs file away. If you also have a power drill with an abrasive cutting wheel you could try it that way resting on the saddle, again keep the fingers out the way. Good luck

Thanks Jim, yes I'll mount it in the chuck with a bolt/lock nut to fit. Any file though? What about aluminum oxide belt mounted on something?

Yes could use that. A strip and a file to keep it flat.
