Different Kanthal wire = funky taste

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here (more than likely as I'm still learning)

I was using A1 kanthal 0.2 wire and everything was great but I only got a small amount. I have now run out and bought some more off ebay this time.

I'm using the same cotton wool roll same atomisers Igo-L and Igo-w also invested in a Kayfun Lite Plus (not the clone rocket) now everything has a sour metal taste. I fire the wire before I make the coil and then dry burn it together so I can't see how there would be any impurities left in the wire.

The wire was wrapped round a piece of cardboard where the first lot was on a plastic spool.

Am I right in thinking it's the wire or could there be something I'm not doing.

Also is there any tutorials on making microcoils with ekowool ??

If it's been wrapped around card then there are probably kinks in your wire that are creating hot spots. Try to straighten out your wire best you can then flame it over a lighter or cooker hob.

I'm with Clint. Get it over the cooker hob if you havent got a blowtorch as a lighter will just about do the trick but hob is simpler for melting out the kinks

Best way I found was to torch the ends of wire. Then hold ends of wire (once cooled) and pull tort. Not too tight. Then whilst its tort flame that. You will end up with a dead straight piece of wire. Remenber if you pull too tight whilst flaming it will snap.

Since ive started using ribbon I feel its a better vape than wire.

Dont spose youve got a ohm meter as a different resistance can really alter the taste imo, Ive just got some new wire and with a fresh battery get a burnt taste but when it drops a little everything is good, normally with same wraps get 1.4 ohms but with this its sub ohm in yet it is supposed to be same wire, admit tho at lower volt it is exceptional

Back again with an update. It is the wire ... apparently I have recieved nichrome wire and not kanthal. I got my hands on a small strip of what I had been using and no funky taste. Another thing that was suggested was I'd been using too much cottonwool

I have a wee blowtorch which i use to flame the wire then once I have the microcoil is built I pulse it and compress the loops together before I insert the cotton wick.

Moral of the story is not all descriptions on ebay are correct.

@Smelly-finger Just think though,if you'd still been smoking you'd never have noticed the slight change in taste.
