Dovpo Blotto - Leakage

Theres a problem if your tank is heating up.
Warm maybe but anything more than warm and theres something wrong somewhere.
@LordOdin is right the melting point of VG is 17.8 °C and anything below is technically classed as a solid so below 17.8 °C VG becomes extremely thick and will play a huge part on wicking.

Pure VG doesn't freeze easily, like water does. It tends to supercool (go well below its MP without freezing). The viscosity of supercooled VG (down to 0 C) has been measured too. That our PG is quite pure promotes supercooling.

Mixed with some PG (MP = -59 C) the MP of the mixture is further depressed WRT that of pure VG.

Pure VG is of course a very thick liquid at RT. I know first hand because I mix my own juices.

And yes, warmer weather will thin VG somewhat. But IMHO the heating of the coil/tank due to ohmic heating will be more significant.

My Pyro dual coil works very well but I don't see what else to expect if with every puff you pump 2 to 3 seconds of 50 W into it!

I cant speak for your pyro as not owned one but I've owned well over 150 tanks and none of my tanks get hot though.
I do draw half a second of air over the coils after taking my finger off the fire button.

So a bit of an update on how things have progressed.

Coil hot spotting could also be a culprit if as you say it was fine at 90-110w which seems about right if not still a bit low for a 0.12ohm build.

You were spot on with the hot spots - when I cleaned it out to try rewicking it, one coil was barely glowing at all. Culprit turned out to be a loose screw on one side.

Your wicking looks a little loose in my opinion. That would coincide with the crackling sound you’re getting

to me it looks like youve not got enough wick through the middle of the coils, if the wick is too loose it will just suck up juice into the deck and flood it then back out the airflow.
try wicking it a bit thicker and dont comb out the cotton too much, just fluff it up

Took your advice on board - I had been using the standard cotton strips that came with the variety pack of premade Coilogy coils, switched to a new pack of Firebolt Cotton which was a lot fluffier out the pack.

The juices are the same PG%, right? Doesn't seem to make must sense it would flood with one & not the other

Yep same 70/30 ratio as the rest of my juices.

Thanks for the links - had a read through and tried to replicate the wicking in terms of placement and "fluffiness" in my latest attempt.

As things stand, when I rewicked and filled the tank up, there was still a fair bit of leakage out the AFC. However after vaping on it for a few minutes, it seems to have sealed up, and been ok the last couple of days. No gurgling, no spitback, and minimal leaks [may just be condensation].

I haven't switched the juice out yet as i'm a little apprehensive it will start leaking again, but I suppose i'll find out soon enough.

Odd you should mention that. Mine pisses juice, till I vape on it, every time I fill the fcukin (well it is a Vaping Bogan item) thing. I've tried masses of wicking ideas and it's always the same.
If I pop off the deck and play with the wicking, it stops,
till I fill it again.
I know the gurgling, I've heard it, is down to a flooded deck. But why the heck the wicking goes wrong with every juice change, totally stumps me.

I feel like this is almost exactly the same issue i'm having with my latest attempt - once I've vaped on it, it seems to settle down, but hopefully this isn't the long term solution for each time I want to switch up the juice. Did you manage to find any workaround that was more sustainable?

Just a couple of my thoughts on this problem. I find with all my bottom airflow tanks, stock and rebuildables as i get to the last 1 ml or so of juice they will leak a bit from the air inlets and i presume this is because you lose the vacuum in the tank as the liquid level drops. To stop it happening don't let the juice level get too low, refill more often.
I am not talking juice pouring out, that is usually a wicking or a seal problem.
If you have rewicked, your airflow should be closed before you fill, and as soon as you fill and put the top back on take a little puff before you open the airflow and when the airflow is open take a couple of stronger puffs just to create the vacuum in the tank.
I will say i tend to keep the same juice in a tank as i find particular flavours suit tanks better for me and if i change a flavour in a tank i will rewick anyway.
Just my thoughts and what works for me. :2thumbsup:

Have you tried shutting the AFC when you fill it?

Thanks for the feedback @Martvb60 - that's an interesting point regarding the juice levels and not something i'd considered before. Will keep that in mind going forward and see if that makes a difference.

I will usually take a couple of puffs to try and create a vacuum as you say, but i'll be honest I don't do this when i'm just topping up the liquid in the tank. It's only if i'm rewicking and taking the whole thing apart, but had mixed results with it so far.

Yes mate i'll close off the AFC just on the off chance it leaks through there, but only when i'm rewicking from scratch, i.e. not when topping up liquid.
