Dry burning coils

I agree
I dry burn at each wick change
I dry burn and then quench under running water and then burn off again
Eventually I can see rust forming on the coil, then I recoil

Change wicks every 2-3 weeks - I normally estimate I can dry burn 3 or 4 times before I recoil

I tend not to bother dry burning/quenching as I make my own coils so do a full rebuild as it's just as quick.

Be careful how hot you glow especially with SS I just accidentally heated some FC's in SS they turned black and the flavour was really off. Fairly new coils aswell, had to fit some new Ni80 ones which luckily I preffer.

I dry burn my coils every time I change the cotton and brush with a small wire brush and keep using the coil until i get a loss of flavour for my juice.
Same here, except I use a TeePee interdental toothrush which cleans the inside as well as the outside of the coil. TeePees come in a range of sizes so whatever coil i.d. you're using you'll find one that fits. The advantage over a metal brush is they're less abrasive so there's less wear and tear on the coil, and they're also really good at removing any partially crystallized gunk from the coil because they are slightly absorbent. Removing the gunk from the inside as well as the outside reduces the cooldown time and thus extends the life of the cotton. I also find that fused Clapton coils cool down faster than an equivalent single strand.

I like the BPMODS ProVape 10g cotton because it comes in strings that are perfect for my preferred 3mm i.d. I change my wicks once a week and I never get burn-throughs unless I go significantly above 4V. Currently using a 32/2*24 fused Clapton that's been on my Serpent Elevate for three months and there's no flavour drop-off yet. The wicking ports on that RTA are perfect for the aforementioned cotton.

It's the combination of everything... the cleaning yes, but also the coil surface area, heat capacity and correct cotton size that all make for nice happy low-maintenance vaping. 😉

Seems like the way you're doing things is pretty similar to how I do things but I use unscented wet wipes to clean every part of my drippers including threading the wet wipe through the coil to clean it inside and out after burning off all the old gunk. I still like to also go over the outside with a wire brush as well.

Personally I use Ni80 framed staple spools to make my coils. Ni80 never seems to cause any bad effects on the flavour, it's got a decent ramp up time and I always let go of the fire button for about a second before I stop inhaling which helps to cool the coil down nice and fast so as not to fry the juice on the coil.

As you say, I find it's worth taking a bit more time to clean everything properly and get the build right. Typically I tend to find I can run 70 to 100 ml of juice through a build before the cotton needs changing again and the flavour is absolutely on point.

Mainly use MTL Coils when i am well, i just change them along with the cotton especially if they are just single wire ones. Same with Mesh, i replace that with the cotton more often than not.
