I'm not going to comment on the story, a tl:dr version of my opinion would be along the lines of the glaringly obvious dangers of creating an extreme amount of heat next to a pure oxygen supply, and to those its not glaringly obvious to, now you know. Science was hard at school right?
Mainly I just cant get over how offensive i find the journalism... i mean, i know the sun and daily mail are bad but c'mon, how can they justify paying a wage to someone for writing articles of that quality. The daily mail writer even clearly demonstrates they cant even interpret the reference correctly by saying
"However, a recent study claimed that e-cigarettes may not actually be healthier than their tobacco counterparts" and then
immediately follows it with the study being reffered to:
"[E-cigarettes] may be safer, but our preliminary studies suggest that they may not be benign". Theres no story there, its a case of reading 'may be' as 'also, may not be', which isnt news to anyone.
I'm almost as alarmed that they get away working at this level of professionalism, as I am at the number of people that read it and soak in every word as fact even when its a self-contradicting un-referenced pile of nonsense that has no resemblance to the definition of the word 'journalism'. I'm not even going to read the Sun article for obvious reasons.
Lack of coffee makes me grumpy enough, futile as it is to get worked up over the Daily Mail. Rant over
