East Lancs NHS ban tobacco AND ecigs for Mental Health patients

I was under the impression that mental health establishments and Hospices were exempt from the Smoking ban regulations?

Yep that is exactly what normally happens, however this ban effects all outdoor areas as well as indoor spaces, I can't see that being good for patients.

Still think it's lip service tbh - you'll never stop smoking in mental health facilities - you quoted the statistics yourself. I certainly wouldn't run a ward where smoking was at least treated with the 'blind eye' angle.

They are http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/28/pdfs/ukpga_20060028_en.pdf

3 Smoke-free premises: exemptions
(1) The appropriate national authority may make regulations providing for
specified descriptions of premises, or specified areas within specified
descriptions of premises, not to be smoke-free despite section 2.
(2) Descriptions of premises which may be specified under subsection (1) include,
in particular, any premises where a person has his home, or is living whether
permanently or temporarily (including hotels, care homes, and prisons and
other places where a person may be detained).

My last little 'holiday' was over 10 years ago before the smokefree laws came into being and the 'resort' where I stayed had a smoking room.

Most of the staff didn't seem to give a rats arse about patients.. far too busy trying to pigeonhole them into cookie cutter diagnoses so they could pump em full of various 'appropriate' pharmaceuticals.

Strangely enough, I received most of my therapy by talking to fellow patients in the smoking room rather than from the staff.

Touching wood, I've not got bad enough to warrant another little package holiday but I think if I did and I was told I couldn't vape, I'd be ready to go proper mental.... if you know what I mean.

These clowns making up these stupid rules have little understanding of what it's like to be confined in a psych ward and a distinct lack of empathy in general. If they did, they wouldn't even entertain the notion of rules like these, let alone bring them into force.

First class cockwombles.
