Review eVic Supreme

Avoid!

Thanks for the review Nigel. If you find a Evic Supreme somewhere by the side of the E45 in Denmark, well that's mine. It fell off my bike and although that's a tragedy I think I'm better off. The thing was a nightmare.

Why? Well you're right it's beautifully made and looks lovely. It has a few problems that render it impossible to live with.

Chief among these is it's constant desire to switch itself off. I understand that it constantly pulses the coil when it's on, so there's a power drain. To avoid flattening your battery when not in use, after a period of time it shuts down and you need to press the fire button five times to wake it up again. The problem is that you have no idea when this will happen - it appears to be completely random.

So no biggy, you look to see whether it's awake or not and push accordingly. Welcome to problem number two. The OLED screen is invisible in daylight - even in a gloomy British morning, out of doors you cannot see what is going on. So you don't know what to do.

If it's asleep and you press it five times, it will wake up. Wait a second, then press and it will fire.
If it's not asleep, pressing the button five times will send it to sleep. Wait a second and press again and nothing will happen.

So you dig this out of your pocket, press the button and you have no idea what's going to happen.

After a while I got used to the idea that I'd press five times, wait, press again. If that didn't work, repeat until it did.
That's ridiculous.

An awful, awful mod. Avoid.
