So as some of you know I work in a vape store,
A customer of mine enquired about a new kit as they had the OBS Cube for awhile and its on its way out. They wanted something of the same size and type (A 1 battery mod + sub ohm tank).
Based of this and some other information he went for the Geekvape Z50 kit.
It wasn't until after the sale he told me he's using a certain high street vendors liquids which I know to be 50/50 :19: They were under the assumption as the OBS Cube has a sub ohm tank that 50/50 liquids were compatible with all tanks (I usually ask what liquid they use first and advise from there but I never thought to ask as I assumed he knew about liquid viscosity having used the Cube for so long) .
I did advise that the tank would be better with a thicker liquid and recommended him some options and that the tank may leak if his current juice is 50/50. He was sure this wouldn't be a problem though and left happy.
Anyway they have returned it this week as the tank is leaking :eyeroll:
They have been polite about it, and has given me some time/options to look into, had they not have been I would turn them away based on them asking specifically for a sub ohm device. This is a real headache working in a vape store, people buy on what you recommend and if you don't cover every basis it almost always comes back to sting you :oops2:.

Anyway I've had a look online and seen that there are 1.2 ohm coils, are these compatible with 50/50 thinner liquids or would they still cause leaking issues? As an alternative, are there any other single battery mod + sub ohm tank devices that take 50/50 liquids at 18mg without leaking? He would be happy with another OBS Cube possibly, if I get the wrong one though I'm again afraid it will leak!

I've no experience with this kit or what Geekvape coils fit it but you would expect a 1.2ohm coil to be happy with 50/50 e-liquid, low resistance sub-ohm coils may not be.

looking on vape club it says suitable for 50/50 or even higher pg juice so even thinner https://www.vapeclub.co.uk/vape-kits/geekvape/z50

  • Simple Design
  • GeekVape Sub Ohm Kit
  • 5-50W Output Range
  • Suitable For MTL and RDTL vaping
  • Compatible 50/50 and Higher PG E-liquids
  • Compatible With All B Series Coils
ive got 4 geekvape top airflow tanks and have never had a leak but yes i do use 70vg but as stated above higher pg is compatable.
where is it leaking from. the top airflow or the base. if base maybe not tightened enough.

id be more concerned about his throat and lungs as 18mg with low ohm coils sure is a hit

ive not used these coils but if they do a 1.2 then yes they should be better but if hes after massive clouds hes not going to get the same as the 1.2 will need lower wattage.

I did type out a reply but lost it :(

Thank you for the reply/information :) I think I will order in some 1.2 ohm coils as they sound ideal.

I hadn't actually looked the device over yet, you may have a point that another issue is causing the leaking. After initial inspection he is using a 0.3 ohm coil (he thought it was a 0.6 ohm) at 20 watts. Its looks like it is leaking from the bottom, down from the coil to the bottom deck and out of the air holes by the looks, the whole deck where you unscrew the coil is flooded. I'm guessing the .3 ohm coil is definitely going to cause flooding issues with a 50/50 juice, would the spare .6 ohm coil provided in the box be any better I wonder?

He was using the OBS cube initially with a sub ohm coil with 18mg 50/50 juice as that was what was recommended to him along with a juice subscription with Totally Wicked, im not sure of the details of why he was recommended that device and I'm curious to know why he has such a bad opinion of MTL devices like the Caliburn. I think he has stuck to what he knows work, a single battery mod with sub ohm tank not knowing that they are designed for thicker liquids in general. He is after the nicotine fix and isn't concerned with amount of cloud or flavour, he also prefers a tighter draw.

Has anyone tried the .6ohm coils (or the 1.2 as per my original post) and would they be suitable in the meantime?

the air holes on that tank are at the top and their site says leakproof https://geekvape.com/z/geekvape-z50.html
1.2 is best but if you cant get them then 0.6 is nearest.

Coils in the Geek Vape B Boost series:

  • B0.2 - 0.2Ω Ohm - mesh (50-58W) new
  • B0.3 - 0.3Ω Ohm - mesh (30-38W) new
  • B0.4 - 0.4Ω Ohm - mesh (25W-33W) used to be called just Boost 0.4
  • B0.6 - 0.6Ω Ohm - mesh (15W-25W) used to be called just Boost 0.6
  • B1.2 - 1.2Ω Ohm - mesh (10-14W) new

My z tank leaked also and i couldn't make out why so now i dont use it anymore. When i did the .6 coils were the best even with 50 vg juice.
