Hi folks.
Started vaping in sept 2012 to cut down on cigarettes and amazingly within a few weeks had cut out tobacco completely, despite only using the [unnamed brand] mass produced replacable cartomisers/cigarette lookalike systems (that to be fair, worked very well for me).

Moved to a Ce4 a few months later, and liked it enough to buy a second and then a third tank, where I then started getting the dry/burned taste.
Went back to the store where they sold me a SmokTec DCT system, which I loved/love and swap/swapped around with my Vivi Nova to keep things sweet.

I've loved both systems and I highly rate them. The reason that I use the past tense when talking about them, is because after 18 months of vaping, for my birthday yesterday I finally wicked and coiled my first Genny - a Smoktec RSST with a 1.2 ohm coil (I wanted to be able to use it on my SID as well as on my mech).

For a first build, I'm really pleased with myself. I followed the petar K method, a somewhat incongruous (but perfectly spaced with no hot spots - I'm really proud of it) 5 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal making for 1.2 ohms, on a Kamry KTS mech (I also use with my Smoktec SID at 10.0 watts).

My arriving question is this:

I use two 18650 batteries. One is a generic "Dishy" 18650 22mAh that came with my SID. The battery that was recommended for my KTS is a Smoktec 2800mAh 18650. I use the Dishy in my SID at 10 watts, and the Smoktec in my KTS.
Am I using the correct batteries for their intended purpose? I don't know much about batteries and less about "low" (to me) 1.0 ohm+ resistance vaping. Both batteries work great with my DCTs and both seem to work great with my RSST at 1.2 ohms, but am I pushing my luck by using these batteries? Should I be using a "better"/"safer" battery?

Hope I can learn a few things, and in the meantime, all the best and have an awesome day :).

welcome squid are you MrKrakens cousin?
i haven't heard of these batteries are they imr or icr I use torchy's for VV/VW mods and sony vtc4 from myepack really safe batteries bud

:welcome1: to POTV

A great place to start is the Wiki for information on Mechanical devices
http://wiki.planetofthevapes.co.uk/wiki/Proper_usage_guide_for_Mechanical_Mods

Further information is available on batteries is there too and Tubbyengineer would be the best person to help regarding your batteries :)
Hopefully he will be along shortly to help ;)

Without knowing the amp rating of batteries I can't help sorry!
However your SID PCB has a 4 Amps output limit so whatever battery you use will be regulated anyway and I suspect it may not fire a coil lower than 1.20hm.

It's hard to be absolutely sure as M'frs tend to use whatever batteries come in cheapest in bulk. In all likelihood these are both Efest 18650 batteries and are probably good to about 0.7 or 0.8 ohms, be careful if you go below 1ohm and check your batteries every few minutes for signs of getting hot. I'd reccomend that you urgently invest in some branded batteries if you intend to regulary got to 1 ohm or below, if not you can run on the included batteries until it's convenient to get better ones...

Thanks for the replies :).
I don't intend to start subohming. At least I don't think I do. I love the RSST as it's set up now (apart from a slightly tight draw, which is easily sorted), and I can't afford to go burning through bottle after bottle of juice :).
I'm putting up another post in Everything Ecigs about the RSST so I might learn a few things there too. :)

Err, no I'm not, because the post new thread button isn't there. Think it must be because I'm new? :)

Okay, so my other new questions are (I read my PMs :p):

1. The RSST seems to waste juice, by which I mean a lot seems to end up condensing on the underside of the top cap and pooling around the build deck. Not enough to drip off, just a "sheen" of condensed e-juice after a while vaping. It's a minor irritation since I'd rather the juice was in the tank or in my lungs than in the "lost spaces" :p. Should I just draw on the RSST more?

2. I rewicked/rewired on thursday, and already the coil is starting to blacken. Am I vaping too low? too high? Or is this normal behaviour for a new coil? :)

3. Would vaping at a higher wattage (my KTS puts out just under 15, I manually set my SID to 10) use more juice? I've moved from DCTs to the RSST and it's a thirsty beast!

Thanks :D.

RS250-Squid - hows it going squiddy? (Bunglehaze on SYB) Nice to see you have made the switch. Do you still have the smoker you were working on?

Batteries are probably the most important part of any setup m8, I would look out for Torchy own brand, efest or aw as a reliable brand. There are tons of unbranded and not wholly accurately labelled batteries around which, if pushed, can fail badly.

Your coil blackening or gunking depends on the juices you use, some are notorious (tobacco's and stuff like liquorice) others not so much
