What's new

Greets, Hi, and a Battery Question!

@RS250-Squid - hows it going squiddy? (Bunglehaze on SYB) Nice to see you have made the switch. Do you still have the smoker you were working on?

Batteries are probably the most important part of any setup m8, I would look out for Torchy own brand, efest or aw as a reliable brand. There are tons of unbranded and not wholly accurately labelled batteries around which, if pushed, can fail badly.

Your coil blackening or gunking depends on the juices you use, some are notorious (tobacco's and stuff like liquorice) others not so much

Ah, my preferred mix is 60% Turkish Tobacco (a lovely golden colour) and Menthol Sensation (clear). I wonder if that could be it. I'm trying to collect lots of different flavours - swapping is so easy with the RSST now, I want to try lots of things to see what I like. :) Just wondering which flavours will affect my tank (polypropylene) :).

As for vaping, as I say, I made the switch 18 months ago, but with the purchase of my RSST, I'm starting to get into "enthusiast" territory now :).

And finally, good to see you too, I got rid of the RS250 in march last year and now ride a 2003 RSV1000 :). Love it to bits. Effortless power, loads of loud rumbling, and one-twentieth the mechanical messing around of the RS :p.

There is a list in general chat of known tank crackers. A lot of high citrus based and those with anise are usually not recommended with plastics - some are fine, others not so. If you find a juice you like the sound of you can search on here and I am sure someone will mention it. Out of interest are you using mesh in the RSST? If so you can dry burn off a lot of gunk that builds up on the coil. If its cotton or silica you just have to remove the wick, dry burn and then add new wick.

Good on you for switching, theres nothing wrong with eGo devices if you get a good battery and atomiser to go with it. As you have found though things to step up a fair bit with RBA's and more 'advanced' kit.

I thought you would have the prilla for life :) You always seemed to be stripping and rebuilding the thing, good choice on the RSV too - I was tempted by one a few years back when I had my 636 but went for an 05 ZX10R instead - just weaponised chaos on two wheels really.

Yeah, 400 stainless mesh. I'm concerned about dry-burning the coil, because I destroyed my second wick by burning it to a crisp (not knowing how to get rid of hot-spots I thought more voltage was the answer and got the wick itself glowing dull red).

As for the RS250, sometimes I regret getting rid, but not very often. The RSV is what I always wanted the RS to be, and a whole load more besides.
I did briefly come away from the RSV and ask "if it's a thou, why is it so tame? Should I get a ZX10R?". After 30 pages of spittle flecked abuse and other rather fun awesomeness, back came the final answer: "You need to take it above 6000rpm".
Apparently the "makes all its power low-down" is a figure of speech, not a statement of fact :).
The RSV is insane. I'm still learning to go from a 30 to a 50 without hitting 70+ in the process :D.

Where do I find this list? :)

The RSV is more than capable for these roads and the grunt it produces makes it a pussycat when you are not giving it a handful too. I was shocked at how tame the big ninja can be though when I first started rising it, it has a reputation for being a nutters bike, and constantly wanting to be on one wheel but honestly unless you are riding like you want it to it can be a thoroughly steady ride.

I swapped the flywheel and did a load of other bits a while back and took it for a run out hope way and then through hathersage back to sheffield. To see if it was behaving itself I decided not to change past 2nd gear for pretty much the whole ride apart from a little bit after fox house. I considered it a steady ride (though it doesn't look it in places on the vid) as I wasn't working at all for the whole journey. The fact it accelerates up from 90+ like most sports cars do 0-60 just means you are never really pushing it apart from on track. Heres the vid :)

Yeah it's fun being in the big boy's club now. Going from a 250 to a thou makes the effortless power something really special :D.

I'm also coming to realise that vaping the RSST on my mech gives it a fairly unpleasant taste. A few quick calculations put the mech's output at just below 15 watts, where the SID's output is set by me to 10 watts.
Is this to be expected? I thought the RSST was designed for sub-ohm high-watt vaping? Or does it depend on the wire?

Is is Kanthal or Nichrome wire you are using? I always find nichrome gives off a flavour but dont notice it on kanthal.

15 watts on a mech shouldnt be a problem as long as the juice is not burning as that will obviously change the flavour when that happens. Just as a guide I am currently sitting around 33 watts on my mech - 0.5ohm coil + freshly charged AW battery on a nemesis clone.

33 watts? Bloody hell!

It's 28g kanthal :).

It shouldn't be the Kanthal then. Did you flame the mesh before you coiled it to remove any grease/impurities? I have an RSST and it offers a good performance - particularly at it's price point. The most obvious thing that could be tasting bad of course is the juice but i have no experience with the ones you mention - I assume they are Hangsen from the name but if not what brand?

What happens if you ramp up the wattage on the SID to 15W? And do you have any other atty's you can try at that power with the same juice too.
