Hi all,

My name is Ian and I am a 58 year old man (although my wife insists I still act like a kid). I smoked from the age of 8, yes shocking I know. My wife and I both gave up smoking back in 1990, although I restarted following the death of my younger brother to cancer, of all things, 8 years later. I gave up again about 9 years ago, after being diagnosed with diabetes. However, following the passing of my granddaughter immediately prior to birth and my wife being diagnosed with breast cancer, I increasingly found myself turning to the odd cigarette as a coping mechanism when the stress became too much.

I got to the point several weeks ago where I was on the verge of going back to smoking full time. I read a "Given up smoking" thread on an unrelated forum that I'm a member of. It turned out that two of the regular contributors had given up smoking and had both taken to "smoking" e-pipes. This peaked my interest, as I was at the point of purchasing a tobacco pipe in 1990, just before I quit smoking. As a result of that thread I started researching the world of vaping.

Several weeks later I treated myself to a Smok Guardian II e-pipe kit, which came with the Aspire Nautilus kit, 1 battery, a double battery capacity charger and a free e-liquid. As I wasn't smoking regularly at the time I chose a 60/40 mix with zero nicotine. What an absolutely inspired first selection that turned out to be for me. No nicotine, as I understand it, means no harmful carcinogens from my epipe and no nasty nicotine dependency either. I get the throat hit and satisfaction that I get from real tobacco in a completely harmless format, again as I understand it. I'm sure if I have that wrong, someone will be kind enough to point that out to me.

I have purchased a dozen sample liquids thus far, some much more pleasing than others. My favourite so far peanut butter and can recommend that to any peanut butter lovers out there.

I look forward to reading, and more importantly, learning as much as I can about vaping and I look forward to contributing regularly.

:2thumbsup: Hello @pava nice to meet you mate!!!

Hello @pava and welcome to the planet. I'm glad that rather than smoking you went nic free with vaping. Just to point out that nicotine as we vape it isn't necessarily carcinogenic as far as current studies show. It does have effects on the body as a stimulant and is addictive although less so than with all the other stuff added to tobacco in cigarettes. That said if you weren't smoking anyway it makes sense not to use any nic. Enjoy the forum!

Thank you for the welcome guys. I have made a few comments, some serious, some comical (I hope) on the nicotine thread. There's just so much interesting stuff to get in to.
