What to do about the upcoming return of the Tobacco & Vapes Bill

This is just about maintaining the tax that they lose from smokers.
Smokers are a Godsend to the government... pay a tonne of tax then die early without claiming a pension forever. Sure there are smoking related diseases, but most people spend a fair bit of time in hospital towards the end of life anyway.

The real fear the governments have is people not smoking, hence the new tax.
The government pays for nicotine patch prescriptions, but taxes vapes. It's illogical - they are both addictive nicotine based products. Expensive cigarettes didn't stop young people from smoking, nor will vape tax stop them from vaping. Teenagers do it to rebel.

If everyone who vapes got prescriptions for patches, Starmer's tax grab would backfire tremendously. Especially if people told their GPs that it was in preparation for the vape tax.

The real issue for the NHS is obesity. Massively so. But taxing would be unpopular with a lot of people so gutless Starmer won't do it. Shrinkflation on sweets will do more to help the NHS than this vape tax.

Basically the legislation which psycho Streeting will be using to decapitate vaping, gives him the right to do whatever he wants I would imagine.

Tobacco and Vapes Bill 2nd reading (in progress):

Tobacco and Vapes Bill Explanatory Notes

........................

Clause 119: Internet services

418: Clause 119 makes it an offence to provide an internet service in the course of a business by which means an advertisement to promote a tobacco product, herbal smoking product, cigarette paper, vaping product, or nicotine product, is published or distributed in the UK. For example, an email marketing service would commit an offence if any of the emails contained an advertisement for any of the relevant products.

The end of potv adverts, plus vape vendor emails etc ?

No more discount codes (including via emails, POTV discount codes etc), vendor giveaways, giveaways by potv members?

Same as EV's being taxed, they plan to make up the lost revenue caused by people quitting the tobacco by switching to tax vaping. Like the alcopops, vape flavours has caused a problem & tbh It's got to be seen as surprising that nicotine for vaping is available without prescription. You've got a situation where flavoursome disposable vapes are everywhere, it takes no effort or know-how to use them and worst of all the ones with nicotine in are sold cheaper than the zero nic ones...

^^ The bill gives the government powers to do pretty much whatever they like via Statutory Instruments and they very likely will.

Whenever I see anything from the government with 'world leading' or 'world class' I roll my eyes.

Your government's plan is as stupid as the Canadian government. By charging this new duty per ml there is no incentive for anyone to lower their nicotine content. I can forsee the smarter folks vaping at the highest nicotine content allowed to cut their volume (puffs tiil they're satiated) down.
