"We've all done it. Using wires that are too thin to handle the power put through them resulting in melted insulation. It's always better to air (err) on the side of caution and use thicker wire than you need. As a general guide, if you are going to pull power close to maxing out a 30A battery, you should stick around the 15AWG/ 2mm² thickness wire."
