hey guys i'm about to start work in a vape shop, and i have been doing alot of research, but because its such a varied market it feels like a steep learning curve. One of the more basic things I am struggling with is how do I know which tanks are comparable with which mods?

BIIIIIIG question...!

Most tanks have a 510 connection. Most regulated mods have a 510 connection. Therefore most tanks will fit on most mods. But you really need to have a feel for what sort of wattage the tank is designed for to make sure you are not mismatching a mod with a tank. For example, the Crown is a tank that is designed for higher watts, so selling it with a mod only capable of 20w is a no no. Think that just knowledge justcomes with spending waaaay too much time on this forum

Wismec have said that using the Smok TFV4 with the Wismec reuleux will void the warranty.

And then you have hybrid mods and mech mods, and I do not know anything about these except that they need a protruding sturdy 510 pin on the tank.

The most simple generalisation would be that sub-ohm DTL tanks need 2 battery 100 watt+ mods.

Other than that, it's just a question of learning through experience.

^sound advice there from vapellie.

the 2 main sorts of vaping are mouth to lung and sub ohming.
as said selling a 50-100watttank to go with a 20watt mod is pointless and same can be said on the other foot. selling a mouth to lung tank which average 14watts is pointless with a 200watt mod BUT it can still be used at 14watts and it saves the buyer upgrading later.
like any new job, you will slowly pick it up and i guess they wont throw you in at the deep end and leave you to run the shop so the best advice is listen and learn.
good luck.

It's probably worth building a list of the tanks that the shop stocks, and finding what watt range they are best at .. plenty of sites/reviewers online have that info.

From that pairing tanks to regulated mods will be easier.

If the shop sells mech mods there is considerably more to get to know ... battery safety, coil building and wicking, ohms law, 510 pin lengths. You probably want to talk to somebody in the shop who already sells them to get the best info and way the shop wants to sell them.

Good luck :)

The thing is you cant go to college or uni to get a degree to work in a vape shop. Its a learn on the job sort of thing. There will be co workers that will know there stuff dont be embarresed to observe and learn from them. More than likely there will be the shops own mods and tanks to play about with aswell

some really sound advice, thanks guys. I will be making a table for all the shops mods and tanks so I can see at a glance what is what. Without trying to sound too dopey

excellent advice given here ty, without trying to sound too dopey you would not sell a 50-1-- watt tank with a 20watt mod but you would sell a 200 watt mod with a 200 watt tank, right?

sound advice guys, I will make a spread sheet with all the mods and tanks tomorrow, so I can see wshat is what at a glance :)

also if you guys dont mind i will post my table here tomorrow so you can rip the shit out it and tell me any mistakes i have made :D

You got the gist of it. Although....

It depends a little on your customer. I vape around 50w but own a 100w mod and a 200w mod. I have them because they take two batteries, so last longer. So selling a 20w tank with a 200w mod MAY be overkill but MAY be suitable, so long as you can gage that from the customer and that they understand the right wattage range for their tank.

I will wager that every single person who joined this forum has sounded dopey on occasion, I know I do it on a regular basis, most of us joined to learn, so don't feel worried about asking questions. We would ALL prefer our b&m staff to know what they are talking about, so keep on asking!
