How many batteries & chargers?

phew, that was close. thanks @Richard Winter :D:D

yup, got a few single batt mods but majority are 37 dual battery mods and thats not counting the built in battery mods from yesteryear.
Nice one @MrDJ . Sounds like we both have similar sized collections lol. I tend to favour the single battery mods as I'm not really into high wattage.
I've got quite a few internal battery mods that I use for taking abroad, so much easier than carrying batteries. Not used them much as I've not been anywhere other than the back garden since covid lol

2(4) x pairs 21700
2 x single 21700
2(4) x pairs 20700
2 x single 20700
32 x 18650 some single some double and 2 x sets of 4 for an RX 300

The Xtar ones are pretty good chargers, not had any problems with them. Sadly the Nitecore D4's dont take that size battery. The Effest V6 I use a lot, no problems with that one either.

Thanks for that, seems like the Xtars come with usb only charging and not mains. I'm looking at another MiBoxer C4. I cut my D4 about so 21700s would fit, snapped a pull tab off but my D4 is ancient anyway. Not a lot of choice out there and how to avoid a fake :hmm: Fogstar haven't much choice atm.

No different to many phones these days that only come with a usb cable. Can't even remember the last phone I got that came with a wall plug. Just plug the cable in to a usb wall socked.

Yes, xtar are "usb" powered, kind of...

My VC4 came with a lead with a USB plug on one end, but the connection to the charger is via a proper coaxial power plug so it's nowhere near as flaky as a micro usb / usb c. I use a 3A 5V PSU that I already had.

Using an inadequate PSU (like a generic phone charger) is the biggest cause of problems with them imo.

It's a disadvantage that you need to provide a 5V supply of some sort.

But, I consider it an advantage to have the step down power remote from the charger unit - one less thing to cause heat next to the cells, and also makes it modular so if either part fails I don't have to bin/attempt to repair the whole thing.

Mine has probably completed at least 900 charge cycles (on pairs of cells) over the last three years - hopefully it won't blow up this afternoon now I've said that ;)

luckily the xtar dragon came with a mains plug and some jump leads to check voltage.

The last xtar I bought I got the 3A charger plug to go with it. Works really well. I have to say the D4's even tho they charge at a lower current, which I know is better but takes a long time are still the best I've got. That's not taking anything away from the Xtar and Effest ones tho.
