Hi there, new to this community and new to RDAs in general, though I've been vaping 'regular' big mods for years (excuse my lack of terminology).

About a month ago I got my first RDA, a Hellvape Drop Dead 2, which I usually keep around 45 watts. The flavor has been very inconsistent, and I often feel as though I can taste the cotton as well as I taste the juice. Also I find the cotton goes brown very patchy and fast, as well as the coils going black fast?
I assume I'm just building poorly, but any ideas what I might be doing wrong while building?

That being said when I first bought the vape and the fella in the shop built it with me, it tasted great! and i had been thoroughly enjoying it.

Apologies if I haven't given much info on my issue, but any help would be appreciated!!

Hi @Tirouu and welcome to the planet.

i cant help with builds as never used a rda but while you wait for replies a bit more info needed.
what juice you using and how much nicotine. desserts and custards can make cotton a lot darker quicker than say fruits but a lot depends on how much sweetner they have in them.
theres plenty on here that build so someone will be along soon to advise.

Thank you for the help! I'm currently using 6mg IVG spearmint, it is quite sweet.

Did you dry burn/glow the coil first and remove any hotspots?
I just re-wicked now, I rinsed my coils (i didn't know people did that) and i did dry burn and it looked okay to me. Glowing from the inside out, quite evenly. It certainly tastes better now but the flavor feels kind of subtle? Thanks for the help!

Take a photo of the build, could be the type of cotton or way too much can give dry patches giving a cotton taste.
45w isn't alot for flavour, if youve got low resistance coils what the specs of the coils?

You could try Increasing the watts now a bit at a time and see if that helps with the flavor? As @MTB Vaper says more detail might help with juice you're using, coil rating and type etc

Oh wow. Now I think you've picked the most sweet make on the market. I bought two bottles when they first appeared and even though I like sweet these were overload.

45w isnt alot for dual coil RDA, depending on the flavour profile and coils and RDA I use 90w to 120w. You can use lower wattage and close the airflow down.
45w is single coil RDA power for me personally.
