Hello and welcome to PotV. It will help us to help you if we know what device you are using. There may be something in the menu that allows only it to work in bypass.

Bypass isn't bad as such, it's kind of like using a regulated mod as a mech mod, but with safety features. Personally I prefer wattage mode, as I like to be able to tweak my vape as I go about my day.
Bypass won't do anything bad. It just means that your vape is fully dictated by your coil build + your battery. I never use bypass so I have no proper advice, but I'm sure a few helpful apes will be along soon.

Edit: if it's a regulated mod that is stuck in bypass mode I would check the manual/maker's website/youtube though.
