What's new

I thought mixing was supposed to be cheap

Maybe they got Apple to put DRM into it. :)

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Planet of the Vapes mobile app
whatever drm is...if it's apple it probably requires a new(£30) cable and it's almost certainly not compatatible with anything else on the planet, including drm2 which will be out next month, both of which will almost certainly wipe all your files.

When I first started mixing,I also bought a couple of bottles of T-Juice concentrates.Once I'd discovered that DIY mixing wasn't requiring an alchemist or a degree in chemistry,I stuck with fruit flavours as these were easy to make & could be used straight from the mixing bowl without steeping. As with switching from tobacco to vaping, the initial setup costs can be quite a pocket-bashing experience but once the mixing cupboard has a reasonable selection then weeks can pass before needing to purchase further concentrates. My recipes are generally geared towards my tastes, and any juices that don't appeal (once mixed) are easily (& cheaply) fixed with menthol.I watch/read reviews on premium juices & note the reviewers comments on what they think they can taste & try to recreate the juice.I also read the labels on drinking juice and try to copy them for vaping(Summer Fruits/Vimto etc)or search for alcoholic drinks and create the same from concentrates.Or search for clone recipes for your favoured juices, but before trying to make the clone I read the comments posted from others about the end result as often they will add a tweak or 2 that results in a closer match to the original.I have yet to create/recreate a juice that was unvapeable, even the juices that were little more than 2% this,4% that,1% this & a few drops of....that,turned out quite nice.I have added up to 7 separate flavours, guessing on the percentages of each from experience of each flavour in a juice alone,so aniseed is very strong so gets 1-2-3% & banana/strawberry etc are very weak so get 10-15-20%.If the self-mixed recipe doesn't quite taste as I expected/wanted,then I'll try tweaking the percentages of each or substituting say raspberry for blackcurrant, aniseed becomes licorice or just scrub the entire recipe & start over.As a result of my DIY efforts,I have accumulated over 60 bottles of different juices with labels from aniseed to white chocolate and includes variations on these (chocolate orange/snake oil,etc that get a 1-2-3 type addition to their labels so I can keep the original and also the tweaked recipes if they all are nice)

Great post @Chegs :-)

If you guys have any questions you think I might be able to answer, ask away & I'll do my best.

Just remember,I'm not exactly what could be qualified(only possess a driving licence :P)but am quite willing to offer up a suggestion or 10

Well to be fair, I have never known you to be shy about offering your suggestions in the 4 months I have been on here! :-)

you asked ;-)

Rough steeping times for vanilla..?

Sweetener and em times would be handy as well.

I'm presuming fruits are all pretty much straight away or 24hrs and nothing takes longer than custard ?

Oh ...sweet cream time would be handy

Really wish soemone would write a book

Rough steeping times for vanilla..? Not a clue as my last bottle of vanilla concentrate was used about 6 mths ago & never replaced.

Sweetener and em times would be handy as well. These 2 seem to add minimum of 3 days to steep(depending on what you added them to)

I'm presuming fruits are all pretty much straight away or 24hrs and nothing takes longer than custard ? Guess you'll not want to hear me say "my Capella Vanilla Custard tastes fine to me after just 24 hours" but the Afro-Dizziac T-Juice concentrate I had required a froth and didn't start to improve until a week had past. :P

Oh ...sweet cream time would be handy Again, depends on what else is added with the cream.

Really wish someone would write a book. My posts often take me as long to type 1 fingered as a proper typist takes to write a fecking full book. :P
:-)
Like I said earlier,my only qualification is a driving licence. My only qualification for vaping is 1 year & some taste buds that work okay for me.Taste is subjective,I don't go much on sweet stuff so rarely add sweetener, and several of the premium custards I've tried the clone version of has sweetener in the recipe so I miss it out.I am a huge fan of custard(the real stuff that goes on a dessert)and always have been. Some of the custard vapes I've tried have tasted more like vanilla than custard, and I'm not keen on them,or they are sweet enough to make what few teeth I have left try & hide.

Nope, I like green steam too. Have you tried quintessence yet? It's similar but more complex. It has that herby flavour and a sort of wine taste to it too (it's meant to be port I think but as I don't drink I couldn't tell you). It's one of my favourites and I was gutted tjuice didn't have any on Saturday.
I ended up getting carried away online shopping yesterday too and dropped another £50 on concentrates. I'm delighted to have finally found atmos labs in the uk. Mind you at £5 for 10ml I hope it's as good as I'm hoping (free shipping so it kind of evened out). I'm hoping this will be the cherry I've been looking for!

I buy the atmos lab stuff.
TBH its the most professional looking base products I have bought to date.
All the VG PG and Nic bases come in proper looking foil sealed bottles (Only down side is the highest strength Nic base they do is 36mg.)
Everything else I have bought from elsewhere has turned up in unsealed bottles with labels that appear to have been Knocked up on a home PC/printer.
But hey, thats cottage industry for ya.

Being totally honest with you all. Mixing takes a bit of practise and an ability to detect finite changes in a flavour or recipe but above all just getting to know your concentrates and their traits too. Everyone could mix up more basic flavours fairly easily with tools like e-liquid-recipes.com and when you start getting success the costs start to fall as well. Where it then gets expensive again is when you are making commercial amounts, bought in concentrates in bulk may be cheaper but they also accrue shipping and import charges, stable and reliable suppliers at higher volumes cost more too and there are a plethora of other things to consider.

That being said there is a place for DIY for those that enjoy it, those that like a basic flavour are well catered for already with concentrate suppliers but for others who just thought it would be a quick and easy way to make the next greatest juice it will prove more difficult, time consuming and expensive.
