Not a single analog since July.

Had all sorts of problems to begin with, with tanks and batteries and which flavours to use and ending up throwing shedloads of stuff away. Usual trial and error for everyone I suppose.

One of the biggest irks and moans I have had was the battery re-charging thing. I even bought a 6 port Maplin unit which works ok but I'm a scaredy cat and don't like going out with the charger left on and as the batteries age they seem to take longer and longer to recharge.

Then of course, I've helped a load of people get onto e's and given batteries away and cartos etc so i guess it's a lot my own fault but I've found something which has made a lot of difference to my moaning (yippee) and battery charging problems and costs if course.

This new battery holder just holds the batteries (I bought a spare one for each holder though, as I didn't know it was just a rechargeable AA type)

It is the fatter version of the EGO-T called the EGO-Y or at least thats what it says on the holder.

I can just bung in a whole set of batteries into a regular home-type charger without having to have the usb charger hub on with connectors all dangling about the place untidily.

The rechargeable battery shown is a LIDLS 2000mah cheapo though it could just as easily be aldi or Duracell or any other brand I am guessing.

I am sure someone else has found this and this post is redundant, but just in case I am going to risk it, please see pics below.

batt1.jpg EGO-Y on left, battery that came with it is blue one in the middle

batt2.jpg open battery holder with springy thing to compress the battery up into it's holder housing

batt3.jpg cheap 2000mah battery in foreground, ready to go into holder

batt4.jpg and the cheapo battery is in ready to be located into the housing

I am using the purple unit in 1st pic above with a cheapo battery in it right now, which seems to last a heck of a lot longer than any others I have used before.

If someone has already posted this then I am sorry, but I tried searching and couldn't find anything anywhere with "aa battery" shown.

Hilary

ps another thing is don't use the passthru's on the computer - have had to have two new power supplies!

:welcome1: to POTV

We call those batteries 14500's, they are the same size as AA but because of the Lithium-ion powering them we differentiate using the battery number :)

Hi Gilliandrea.

Thanks for that.

The ones I've got are NIMH does it make any difference?

Why couldn't I find any posts about them before?

Am I ok to keep using them like this?

@Hilary

The best person to ask here would be @Tubbyengineer he knows his batteries :)

I know of a few mods that can take Nimh batteries but they have to be 3.7v as the PCB in the Ego head ensures that a consistent current is given during the 'vape' :)

To find info on the batteries try the 'Wiki' on top menu and search 14500 battery on the forum :)

Will do! Thanks for all that.

Have been using these cheapos for a few weeks now, everything still working! Better read up so as not to push me luck.

Hi Hilary , Congrats on not smoking.... that's progress. You are right not to trust batteries, when they go wrong, they go wrong horribly!!! I charge mine in an old bread bin and have bought recommend charger and Torchy's cells.
I've read your post a couple of times and not sure what you're saying (my fault!!!).... sorry I've had a few G'n'Ts. But if you're using AA's in a mod I'm not sure that's a good idea.
Nicads only put out around 1.2V. The batteries used for vaping run at 3.7. When vaping you create what is basically a caning circuit, (which in theory is safer on a lower voltage).... but I it's all to do with the chemical composition of the cell.
I'm sure someone will be along to tell you if that's okay or not... but I would spring for decent batteries/charger.. Check our Torchy's on ebay (UKVapers discount if bought directly), and be patient on the charging front....

I might, and probably am, talking total BS, but AA's in a mod.... not sure.

Anyway good you for spreading the word....

hi Derth Vaper

Well see the thing is, up until a few weeks back I didn't even know you could take them apart and stick in another battery that you have charged up somewhere else.

I am such a neat-freak and a still a bit o-c-d going out with at least two spare batteries and half a container of liquid.

If I had known about this before, I could have just stocked up with replacement battery inserts.

If the voltage is different, how come they still work? I do have a cold thats been hanging around a few weeks... but?

Thanks for help.

Hilary

I'm suprised it's working at all as the NiMH batteries only put out 1.2v, I would imagine that this is doing terrible things to those NiMH batteries but they are safer than Lithium based batteries, However it will drastically reduce their life span to a couple of dozen charges. You really should use the correct batteries and chargers as not doing so is taking the risk of the battery exploding, venting caustic chemicals or just plain bursting into flames.

Efest IMR batteries of the 14500 size to fit that unit are £4.95 from Vape escape and will give you far better vapour production should last a normal vaper for most of a day and have a 18 to 24 month life based on charging everyday, and a single slot charger is under a tenner, with a good quality Xtar dual slot being £17...

Thanks Tubbyengineer,

was just about to start looking at your stuff as recommended by Gilliandrea.

.... excuse me

off to read all about it.

I'm not sure why theyre still working. Probably the operating voltage is just inside the limits for the Ego circuit. What it will be doing is causing huge current drains that will be shortening the life span of the batteries. Are you getting good vapour production?
