Inductive charging

Has this been done in a box mod?

I know that the magnetic chargers are being used on the Vaporsharks and these are cool, but an inductive charger would be even better.

Also has seen the magnetic charger parts for sale? I am planning a box mod and would love this over USB

I've seen the induction coil parts for sale on fasttech and thought about including it in a mod design but dismissed the idea after trying a QI charger with my Nexus 4 phone. It produced a lot of heat in the phone and was much less efficient than USB charging.

Also if you're going to be incorporating it in a box mod you will need to mount the coil very close to the surface of the box. On my Nexus 7 tablet even some plastic cases prevent the wireless charging from working.

Give it a go though as it'll be unique as far as I know!

I admire Vaporshark for achiving this, their box mush have been jam packed already before this mod.

I will try and find a mobile phone spares site and have a look to see if they are any good.

I'm guessing that if I did use one of these chargers it would have different results in charging li-po compared with 18650?

Some mobiles use them and also the MacBook Air if I am correct.

I guess that this pretty much is inductive charging but with the magnets to hold the cable in place.

If I build a box mod it needs this!

no its not inductive charging its just magnets holding the wire in place.

Yep, as BaDaBoom says the Mac Book Air just uses a charging lead held in place by magnets. Simples.

Inductive charging is contactless / wireless charging where you do not attach any wires to the device being charged. I'm sure I saw some generic kits on fasttech a while ago but now all I can find are patches for specific phones, for example:

So it's best to fit one like the mac book / vaporshark IF I can find one!

Induction looks cool but if it generates too much heat, takes up too much room and is generally less efficient at charging its a no brainer

Wireless charging's selling point is convenience. You just put your phone / tablet on the charging pad and it charges. I've tried it and for me the novelty wore off quite quickly.

I like the magnetic charging cables on a laptop purely because I've had a couple of failures where the charging socket in the machine becomes detached from the circuit board. This mainly happens due to stress when the charging connector is knocked or the leads are tugged repeatedly. However, if you're charging a mod you're probably just going to put it down somewhere and leave it so the main advantages are lost. It is a nice little feature if you can find some decent magnetic charging connectors without ripping apart a MacBook Air!!

Good luck with it!

Why not just use a usb cable ?? If the magnet cable breaks you have make a new one, if the usb cable breaks you go to poundland.

I know, this was always an issue. I have loads of micro USB cables about the house, can't avoid them!

It just looked different and cool but at the end of the day it will only be me seeing my mod the majority of the time :)
