Is it possible that lower quality eJuice/ingredients in the marketplace can wreck coils?

Good Morning All,

A close work collegue and I have been discussing a topic which I felt I'd share with you all. Also with a view to maybe helping us along the way with improving our eJuice selections. Apologise for the long post!

To give some context we're both veteran vapers, we both have what I would consider a good quality equipment (me the Geekvape Aegis X and him the Aegis legend). We've both fully explored and understand various curve and temperature control options. Having spent a good couple of years building our own coils in RDTA or RTA setups we've both ended up settling on the pre-made coil Sub Ohm route. Mainly for convenience and also because with the introduction of conical coils we found the flavour now getting very comparable.

So after a little research he decided to try the Falcon King and myself the OFRF Nexmesh. Both very impressive tanks and excellent flavour, only downside was the on-going expense of the coils but it was cost vs convenience and more than happy with that. We're both operating in wattage modes, 65-70w max in standard fire modes (I have also tried soft fire which fires at -9w for half a second). Coils always heavily primed and then soaking for at least 30 mins.

Anyway, I've read countless reviews on both these tanks but we both seem to be experiencing a similar issue in that the coils aren't ever really seeing over a weeks use before flavour loss/slight burn when I'd seen in reviews people were getting 4, 5 or even 6 weeks use.

My first question is, has anyone else found that actually it pays to go for a premium juice in comparison to the cheaper options? In this case for me it's been 88vapes (75% VG), my colleague Jon is also using typically a 75% VG option. Is it possible that a cheaper eJuice is using lower quality ingredients and mixing processes that are effecting coil life? OR is there a better VG/PG ratio to trial?

I could be wrong but I just can't figure out what's causing it and I don't think the above mod settings are justifying it. I thought it might be an occasional chain vape doing them in so switched to temp control on the Aegis X. Frustratingly I have found on the Geekvape Aegis X that when using TC mode it heavily loses output. I'm using the SS316 coils in the OXRF (70W, 210 degrees Celsius protection). Effectively when I switch from 70w standard to 70w TC there is a major drop in the chuff! My second question is has anyone experienced this issue?

Apologies as I apprecaite that this is also a technical question on the Aegis X, however any help greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mike

I certainly have certain liquid flavours that I enjoy which last just a day or 2 before I need to change cotton (or coils). Yami Vapor Taruto is such a juice. Tastes amazing at first, within a few days it tastes like a burnt mess. I was told by the owner of a vape shop I sometimes visit that it can be to do with the sweeteners or sugar content in the juice and how that reacts to the coils. This person also told me that he tries to avoid such juices, enquiring about ingredients and longevity prior to purchasing stock.

I have had falcon coils that last for 5 weeks using liquids like Six Licks and Wick Liquor. The same coil can’t last a day with Yami Vapor liquids. I am not sure how it could relate to cheap liquid vs expensive, but it would not be a stretch to imagine it might be cheaper to use sucrose in your liquid as a cost effective way to get the flavour right.

I have experimented with different companies e-liquid to find what I like, and do avoid the coil killer juices as best I can. If you are having trouble with falcon coil heads I would definitely suggest it is a liquid problem rather than the hardware. Different juices will also react differently in different setups, but that is slightly branching out to a different kind of topic IMO.

That extra 5%vg can make quite a bit of difference.
The majority out there are 70vg.
Also it can vary on the shortfills when adding a nic shot. Most supply a 100vg nic shot. Now over the years I've found some juice is just too thick so I now use either a 70vg or even 50/50 nic shot and the juice doesn't burn coils out as quick.

What I'm trying to say is some cheap juice is 70vg before the nic shot and then adding a 100vg shot will make it even thicker.
Now premium suppliers on my list like prime vapes or Cotswold vapour will work out at 70vg after the nic shot is added.
Hope that makes sense as on phone at work and keep getting interrupted.

Too much sweetener ruins coils

and this

Many thanks for your informative replies guys, @MrDJ you've made an interesting case regarding the nic shot VG ratio's. That's something that I hadn't considered, in the past I must admit I was always a fan of a 50/50 juice anyway. Just seems very very hard to come by these days!

In just being ignoring and pouring whatever nic shot into the juice that is supplied I haven't been taking notice for example that a 50ml shortfill at 75% might then be pushing potentially well over the 80% VG mark. This is definitely something I'll explore, in fact I'll likely run some 0% nic 70% juice through for a coil and see if this extends the coil life. If so then this could definitely be a contributing issue. I've only ever bought 1 juice in the past which was 80%VG and it rendered coils unusable in days so never again!

Have a look at my recommended list stuck at top in the new user section. SimonG has a list of 50/50 juices on there.
Vape potions used to have quite a big list of 50/50 juice as well

50ml shortfill at 75% might then be pushing potentially well over the 80% VG mark

A 75vg 50ml shortfill with 10ml of 100vg nic shot added will give you 60ml at ~79%vg.

If the shortfill is 80/20, it'll end up at 83/17 with a 100vg shot.

The juice I make for the wife I mix at approx 80vg (depending on which nic shot ratio she's sourced) and she gets +/- a month out of a nunchaku coil - but it's not a massively sweet mix and she runs relatively low power...

How much juice you using per week ????
By that i mean yes i could get 6 months from a coil if i only vape 10 ml a mth , But if i vape 60ml a day then i will get a lot less from them.
As i have said before to me its more about amount of juice used than the time factor, Yes shedloads of sweetener will kill coils quicker
than a non sweetened juice. But if your burning through 100 ml a day then no coil will last very long time wise.
