I'm resisting the urge to go somewhat postal at the latest piece of anti-vaping rubbish I've seen, this time published and publicised by a couple of people I've had respect for in the past, so I'm going to have a mini rant here instead (apologies, and tune out now if you want!).
The Dorset Eye (which is a small, leftie, reasonably anti-government site) has posted an article here - Electronic Cigarettes: The New Craze That Keeps You Hooked on Nicotine - Health and Well Being - Dorset North which is a properly ill-researched campaign about the dangers of vaping (because children might start smoking, although if you listen to this article, it's unlikely that any vaper will have children because they'll all be rendered infertile by dangerous PG). It was then publicised by Keith Ordinary Guy (A Letter a Day to Number 10 | Keith Ordinary Guy), who writes a letter a day to No 10, I think primarily to piss off the PM. Whilst it doesn't exactly have the reach of the Fail, I was surprised at how many people were reposting and sharing it as if it were gospel, and there seems to be something of a conspiracy theory starting up that all e-cigarettes are owned by big tobacco. What really surprised me though is that these people are usually working against the same corporate/government complex that I dislike, and I can't even blame this article on the MSM being sponsored by big pharma (ooh arh) or big tobacco.
Gah! When will people stop being so puritanical! (Rant now over!)
