people may already know this and im just a bit behind but i thought it was worth mentioning. i happened upon the page for the perfumers apprentice earlier, its in america but they ship worldwide it seems, but thats not the point. while looking i noticed that they listed the ingredients for the flavourings, some were very simple, like orange is just orange oil, most others are natural or artificial ingredients and either PG or ethyl alcohol. there are some however that contain other chemicals and its here i noticed something to look out for, several of their concentrates use a substance called triacetin which it says elsewhere on the site doesnt mix well with VG so if you have been having trouble making a certain juice (like PA blueberry candy for example) in a VG heavy mix that could be why. heres the bit from the site about it:
The Perfumer's Apprentice is please to offer a new option in the world of Flavors!
We now offer many of our flavors (more to come) blended with Triacetin, instead of
Ethyl Alcohol or Propylene Glycol.
It is a good alternative for people with health-related concerns about propylene glycol.
Note: triacetin does not mix very well with Vegetable Glycerin, and might have a tendency
to separate a bit.
Below is a link to a study done for the cosmetics industry, but which also provides
data on food safety as well as inhalation safety. Please feel free to call us with questions.
Also, triacetin may soften certain types of plastic. (not our plastic shipping bottles however, which are HDPE). This could potentially have an effect on plastic pipettes, etc.
