Looking for a kit

Hello there,

My mum has been diagnosed with COPD and obviously i want to do everything in my power to stop her smoking so I am looking for a kit that has a decent sized battery and is easy to buy interchangeable parts and whatnot. I'd say battery life would be one of the most important things as she's trying to kick a habit in which she smoked 40+ a day for over 20 years.

She was using Nicolites before and doing OK but one day they just randomly made her feel sick every time she took a draw. I reckon it was because of the tobacco flavour because there was a point where she actually lit a proper tab up, took a draw and had to stub it out because it tasted horrible and made her feel sick.

Advice on a kit, best place to buy juice and any general tips would be great.

I can recommend(I started with it)the 1100 kit on Really, 2 1100mah egos,2x atomisers, charger and lead has been on special for awhile now too, plus look in discount codes for further discount, the juices are not bad either so make up an order together and you should even get free postage

OK thanks. I'll consider that and see if anyone recommends anything else.

I'd recommend a kit similar to that but one wth eGo Twist style batteries rather than a fixed voltage. (Vision spinner or a smoktech winder being other similar ones) 1100mah batteries would be better than others as a 40+ a day smoker will most likely be a chain vaper when they start out and you want batteries that will last as long as possible.

The Variable voltage will make a big difference. If you use a fixed voltage device and use cheaper clearos like CE4's then you'll tend to find that they are variable in resistance. They might be rated at 2 ohms say, but 1 will be 2.1ohm and the other might be 1.9ohm so one will always give the user a 'weaker' vape than the other one. On a twist battery (or any VV VW mod) then you can twist it in till it vapes how you want it to. On a fixed voltage device you're stuck with how it comes out. A fixed voltage eGo style will be lots better than the cig-alikes and a good step up, but variable voltage will be better still. you should be able to get a VV starter kit with 2 batteries, a charge cable, a couple of clearos and some e-liquid for £40-50 before discounts from any of the good vendors.

I found I preferred a warm vape, especially since when I quit smoking I was used to smoking all the way to the end of the fag. So for me variable voltage (my first VV thing was an old lavatube) was a godsend. I also can't stand tobacco flavoured anything now, it makes me retch. I'd suggest some fruit flavours or a vanilla flavour rather than a tobacco if your mum is getting the same kind of reaction that I did.

Any links would be fantastic as I don't want to buy the wrong stuff!

Absolutely agree with the ego start. I dabbled with lookalikes first and they just weren't effective enough to keep me off the fags. They just didn't produce enough vapour to replicate the experience of smoking.

I started with an Ego & CE4s - the above advice about an Ego Twist is sound. CE4s are a great start, but I had very different (less satisfying) results from subsequent CE4s I bought, and it's been suggested it could be because the resistance was too high for my basic Ego battery.

I've moved on to an Evod clearomiser now, but the initial kit is far from obsolete, and the Ego can be used with other clearomisers.

Fruit/sweet flavour juices help to make the shift from the fags - it's a disappointment when they don't taste of something pleasant.

Best of luck to Mum.

Cheers man. Not sure where to look to get a 'VV starter kit with 2 batteries, a charge cable, a couple of clearos and some e-liquid for £40-50 before discounts from any of the good vendors' as VaperCaper mentioned. I don't want to buy rubbish stuff or wrong / incompatible items.

Is the Evod clearomiser better?

I am very happy with the Evod, though the best of my CE4s isn't far off the same quality of vape. The evod vapes much better than the worst, and it's 2.5ohm, so on the high side for a basic ego battery. One of the major advantages of the Evod as a step up from CE4 is that the heads are replaceable, so you don't have to replace the entire unit and you can buy different resistance heads to suit batteries and personal vaping preference, so a couple of evods and a range of heads will allow your mum to settle on something that works for her, then you can order more of the heads that she likes best.

The original kit was from a market stall, and was a clone of the eGo & CE4, but it worked fine - however, the centre post was a little off centre, so I did have to be careful to stop juice leaking through the drip tip. These clearomisers are disposable, but aside from one faulty one I bought later, none have died on me yet.

I did buy the Evod from ebay, but stuck to the slightly more expensive one that was advertised as genuine Kanger (not quite sure how one proves whether it is or not, but at least I had the description should it prove to be a bad copy). I've bought from various sites, and I do have a lot of stuff on order from fasttech at the moment. I've also bought from the marketplace on this site, but more e-juice supplies than anything else. I have two more evods on order from fasttech, can't comment on quality until they arrive. My Ego twist and a mini 450mah ego are also on their way from FastTech.

There are also quite a lot of bricks & mortar shops springing up - the advantage of these are that a decent one will let you try before you buy - both of my current batteries came from a local shop - though my local one costs a little more than the cheapest online (non variable batteries £10, not sure about other products).

One of the great advantages of the eGo batteries are that they are compatible with so many different clearomisers. A good vendor should state this, but they are certainly suitable for use with the Evod and CE range of clearomisers.

A huge range of kits online include the eGo and compatible clearos (most often CE4s or CE5s in my experience), but you can purchase it all separately if it works out cheaper or more specific to your mum's needs.
