The state controlled BBC are very keen to publish such stories. Pretty soon the Politicians will be saying "something needs to be done"....

A man was killed when a charging e-cigarette exploded and ignited oxygen equipment he is believed to have been using, Merseyside's fire service said.

The 62-year-old victim was found in the living room of a house in Penkett Road, Wallasey.

A small fire in the bedroom of the property had gone out before firefighters arrived, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) said.

The exact cause of death is yet to be established, with an inquest now due.

It's actually quite a balanced piece.

BBC said:
it is thought that the charging device being used at the time may not have been the one supplied with the e-cigarette.

"We urge people to always use electrical equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and guidance, always ensure that no electrical items are left charging overnight or left unattended for a long period when being charged, and do not mix parts from different e-cigarettes.

"Only use the original charger or electrical cables supplied and ensure you purchase electrical items from a reputable source."

Since January, nine fires involving e-cigarettes have been recorded on Merseyside.

How many fires have been caused by lit tobacco cigarettes in Merseyside since January?

Probably quite a few, but they most likely wouldn't report that. Obviously an agenda behind all these stories.

It's funny how they say "Man Killed as e-cigarette explodes" and then a line or 2 down, they say: "The exact cause of death is yet to be established"

It's all spin on topics people are interested in. I doubt if a small battery exploding could kill a person but charging anything, phone, ipod ..... with the wrong charger could make a battery vent.
Media monkeys!

Well the BBC are essentially Camerons publishing company.. Besides the fact they spent 5m of our money to cover for scumbag peados within their ranks though is a whole other story, dicks.

Oxygen equipment though? Could of happened just as easily if he turned his gas cooker on, or lit a cig, or anything.
If regulation comes into force, they should be regulating battery safety and proper equipment supplied to charge a battery that isn't cross compatible to further dilute our gene pool with health and safety madness.. Yet there's no money making involved in that so they won't be interested.

I get tired of these sensationalist E-cig danger reports. It seems that the news is either doctor's/scientists saying how much healthier e-cigs are on one day to scaremonger stories the next.

Obviously its awful someone lost their life but seriously WTF was he doing with an oxygen tank near his electrics anyway? Plus why are these e-cig fires happening in Merseyside, dodgy local vendor maybe? I remember the one from a while back where some lady was messing with a lighter, an oxygen tank and an e-cig in her bed, kind of a recipe for disaster.

Most of these accidents happen in the first place because the individual user in those cases has very little common sense and the really annoying part of it is its an excuse to declare us all an unsafe menace.

fire + oxygen is dangerous?! who knew! (apply your most sarcastic mental voice possible)

that's two occasions of batteries setting fire to oxygen equipment.
Do people that are given pure oxygen devices not get safety advice - like keep it the fuck away from anything electrical/ fire hazards?
I think these people should be candidates for Darwin Awards.
Numpties if you ask me, don't charge batteries near pure oxygen, or smoke near it or light a match etc.
Natural Selection at it's finest

Anti bbc types try listening to pm it's on radio 4 now, if you can find a more balanced program feel free to post it here.
