You can use a mid size paper clip to roll the inner straw. The rolling pin for the outer straw obviously has to be slightly thicker than the thickness of the rolled inner. Have fun [emoji6]

Thank you. Should I leave the inner roll as it is when I take the clip out, or should I try to tighten it and close up the gap a bit?

I didn't. However when you place the outer straw over the inner I have rolled it tight to close the gap in between. Then wrap your coil over the mesh combo.
