I agree with that. You buy cheap, you buy twice I what I was always told too and it does ring true a lot of the time
I'd just like to add that if you are adding pics and details to this thread please also include how much you paid for the battery approximately.
This is one of the SmokTech eGo Winder 1100mah batteries we sell for about £20 for reference. (we get them directly from SmokTech)

Funnily enough I'd just done the same with mine
Always! I'd actually done it a while back when people started saying my batteries wouldn't charge. They do, if you're using a decent USB cable if the step-down is wrong, the charge circuit won't activate which is a blessing and a curse, because the cables from bauway are a mixed bag! So i've binned the lot and waiting on Smok I would stock Joyetech... but not at that MOQ for bloody egos >.< especially considering Smok are as goodIsn't pulling things to bits fun!

Here's another one.
Sold as a 900 mah in a blister pack with a ce4 type clearo and a usb charger:

The clearo had a crack in the bottom plate, so leaked/gurgled, and the battery crapped out after about half an hours use. The charger's going in the bin too. I haven't looked up the battery spec, but it's too small to be 900 mah, and you can see the bit of foam rubber stuck to the end to stop it from rattling inside the casing.
Checked it on the multimeter after it died - tells me it's got 2.6v, suggesting the overdischarge protection has either failed, or was never present.
