Hi Guys,

Just ordering my first mixing starter kit from LT. I'm hoping to make some juices with 4-8mg of nicotine and eventually, once i get myself off it, 0mg.

Currently looking at this kit - http://www.ltecigs.larsentilbrook.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=63_74&product_id=156

But I notice that the nicotine is mixed with the PG. I still don't know at present whether I like PG or VG based juices. I like some throat hit and good vapor - so not too much throat hit but plenty of taste. Couldn't care less if there is a cloud of vapor or not, just enough. I know this is very subjective.

Would you guys recommend buying the VG with nicotine in and use more PG to dilute down the nicotine or stick to the PG nicotine mix in the kit. My concern is that VG is thicker (I think) so using more of that would cause problems.

Of course I could get 0mg PG and 0mg VG and just get nicotine by itself but I can't find small amount or low mg nicotine anywhere.

Any advice appreciated.

Or perhaps just the kit without fluids and a bottle of 6mg VG & 0mg or 6mg PG?

Wow, this is getting confusing!

You can't buy nicotine that isn't in PG or VG or indeed a mix of the two.

Unless you're going for really high VG ratio, nicotine in PG should be fine - you can get VG easily and cheaply from Boots, but PG isn't common in high street chemists.

VG gives more vapour, but PG more throat hit and carries flavours better, probably why most flavour concentrates contain PG.

Maybe try a 50/50 mix to start with?

I wouldn't buy low mg nic solution, you're better off with 54mg/ml or 72mg/ml nicotine that you then dilute down with either VG or PG or both. But remember to wear nitrile gloves.

I do 50/50 PG/VG, and I use 54mg PG based nicotine and PG flavours - once I've put those in (depending on the amount of flavouring I want), I have about half my total, so the rest is VG (currently mixing at 16mg). As you want to go with low nic content, the higher concentration of nic you get, the better, as it means you'll need less of it and have more room to juggle your PG/VG to suit your own taste.

I'd also buy as large a quantity of your base ingredients as you can afford. It might seem like a large outlay, but it brings the cost per ml down a lot.

I use vg from boots and the pg from the Nic base and flavours. If its too thick you just add dionised water (max 10%). I really don't like much pg but this amount works well for me, but we are all different so it's trial and error I'm afraid.

Yeah whatever you do don't buy pure nicotine - you get 1 drop of that stuff on your skin by mistake and you're dead.

No if's, no buts, dead.

You can get nic diluted in VG and nic diluted in PG - the max strength you can buy in the UK without needing a license is 7.5% or 75mg/ml - most often you'll find 72mg/m or 54mg/ml.

If you don't like PG then you need to thin down VG with either distilled water (about 10%) or alcohol (a good quality vodka works fine) though distilled water is better.

Most flavourings you get are mixed with PG so it's actually really tough to make 100% VG e-liquids.

I'd also highly recommend nitrile gloves, vinyl gloves aren't very good for protection from nicotine.

Most commercial e-lquids are 70% PG and 30% VG - for a first mix I'd recommend a 70/30 mix with 15 to 20% flavouring in it - there are a lot of good e-liquid calculators out there.

I gave read on the forum of people cleaning gear with vodka but diluting a juice! Won't that go bang or at least a juice flambé like a Christmas pus when you vape? Might be quite a throat hit! Joking aside what in reality happens if you do this?

The juice thins out and you get slightly more throat hit.

If you use 40% vodka and mix it into your e-liquid at about 10% then ~4% of the final e-liquid is alcohol. It's about as likely to flambe as a pint of lager :)

there is a alternative to VG it's AG which is VG premixed with distilled water and easier to handle than vg as it's quite thick ( only reason I knew this my first kit came with ag instead of vg :) )
