We all knew in our hearts that the TPD would be forced through. We all knew in our hearts that the majority of MEPs would succumb to the blackmail of being labelled pro smoking if they refused to vote for an un-separated directive.. for many of them it would have amounted to political suicide.
We knew in our hearts that the deal had already been done, we had been cast aside as acceptable casualties for the 'greater good' of the anti tobacco crusade.
So no real surprises then but to have the cynicism, corruption and willfull disregard for democracy officially sanctioned, is still a bitter pill to swallow.
Now the game moves on.
The next requirement is for someone to step forward and begin a legal challenge.. and being as most of us are UK based, that someone should be representative of a UK centric approach, that recognises not only the need to challenge the TPD but also be prepared to challenge the UK government and the MHRA when they inevitably step up to claim their own perceived portion of the 'carve up'.
Hopefully, this challenge will be fronted by representatives of the UK vaping industry, with the support of UK consumers.
When the call comes for support we need to be prepared to back it however possible, through financial contribution, through political lobbying, through social media and on the streets if necessary.
If you want the right to vape when, how and where you want to, then you need to commit to the fight and be steadfast. The vote today must not be allowed to slip under the radar.. news of the corruption and cynicism needs to be spread as far and wide as possible and made to seep into the consciousness of the public. They need to be made aware of the injustice and the unethical path that the EU has taken and what we are fighting against.
So don't be cowed and don't despair.. arm yourselves with the means to circumvent the corruption and be vocal, be visible and let these bastards know that we've only just begun to fight.
