mutant x coil help

hi just ordered a Mutant X V4. what would you suggest to wire the coils i have some 24 guage would that be any good or should i go heavier i am going to use japanese cotton on it any other info on this rda would be gratefully received

24g is usually for 0.5 and below. Unless you have a monster mod where high wattage gets over the ramp of such a large coil.

ive never used an RDA before, i have built many coils this is my first foray into sub ohming, hence the cheap kit
to start with ill be putting it on my nemisis but have a smok x m80 on order
so basically looking for advice on best way forward
i was thinking of dual coil

Tbh being as you have the 24g ready i'd go 6 wraps on a 2.5mm driver which will give you pretty much bang on 0.5 in single coil mode.

I'd start there as the ramp will be fine on a mech and will give you a good indicator of what sub ohming is about.

My fave sub build to date is a fused clapton x2 26g cores wrapped in 33g. 5 wraps approx 0.35.


As always i'm sure your up to speed on batteries limits/low builds. If not check it out.

just did some math and your right if i dual coiled it would be insanely low, i was looking at using 30 amp batts
as i say sub ohming is a learning curve so at moment learning as much as i can from guys on here. my kit wont be here til next week so no temptation to do anything silly lol

as i say sub ohming is a learning curve so at moment learning as much as i can from guys on here. my kit wont be here til next week so no temptation to do anything silly lol

Cool, have you downloaded the steam engine calculator for your phone. Its good as a quick reference for builds, you'll soon get the hang of what = what.

If you get into it grab som 26g - makes dual coil /parallel building a lot simpler/not daft low.

Have you checked out the coil porn thread its always worth a gander for ideas.

I've got a thread going in the classies where i flog coils, get quite a few questions about builds on there also through PMs. if you do have a looksie don't feel compelled to buy anything - anything in that thread you can build yourself.

The mx4 is lovely btw, again i prefer single coil, i leave x2 bottom holes open and x1 row of upper holes for the airflow. Tasty and cloudy.

As said, .5 ohm builds and above, is preferably where to start for your first time sub-ohming, no matter if you know a lot about it, or not. Have a play around, and see what you like best. Some don't enjoy going below .5, as the heat gets a bit too much, whilst others and myself included, like going down to about .3. That's the lowest I go down to, for safety reasons. I've been down to .2 ohm once, and it wasn't for me, slightly too hot, flavor was killed!
