I am compelled to contact you again in response to the disturbing revelation that, in spite of the dismissal of Amendment 71 of the Tobacco Products Directive and the approval instead of Amendment 170, the European Parliament is to consider new and even more draconian and frankly scandalous proposals in relation to electronic cigarettes, as set out in Article 18, which seem to go further again than the farcical Amendment 71 in its efforts to effectively prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes in their current state, a move which would condemn millions of people to an untimely and disease ridden death at the hands of the tobacco giants!

*

Why would any government, supposedly acting in the interests of public health seek to remove from the market a product which increasing volume of scientific data is proving to be orders of magnitude safer than tobacco?

Electronic cigarettes have already in a very short period done more to reduce people’s dependency on tobacco than conventional NRT could ever hope to and with ZERO expenditure from the treasury.
They are offering people a safer alternative to a product that will undoubtedly considerably reduce their lifespan and increase the user’s burden on the NHS through smoking related disease and ill health.
In reference to the study I cited in my previous correspondence to you*

CASAA Scientific Director, Carl V. Phillips, summarized the importance of the study, saying*“It has always been clear that e-cigarettes were much lower risk than smoking, but there was uncertainty about whether continuing to inhale a mix of chemicals posed a measurable risk. Even those of us who have long encouraged smokers to switch are a bit surprised that even the worst-case-scenario risks are so low. This study assures us that e-cigarettes are as low risk as other smoke-free tobacco and nicotine products, like smokeless tobacco and NRT. *All of these products are about 99% less harmful than smoking, and so smokers who switch to them gain basically the same health benefits as if they quit tobacco and nicotine entirely.”**

*
Scientific opinion is quite clear on the matter,*ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES WILL SAVE LIVES*so please I urge you again to do everything within your power to prevent electronic cigarettes being regulated into extinction. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation and support in this matter as I would hope you can see the undoubted benefits to public health and do everything you can to oppose and reject the hideously disproportionate regulations proposed in Article 18 because, as melodramatic as it may sound, if passed, Article 18 will effectively be a death warrant for millions who will be denied a viable, safe and effective alternative to tobacco.

*"If all the smokers in*Britain*stopped smoking cigarettes and started smoking e-cigarettes we would save five million deaths in people who are alive*today. It’s a massive potential public health prize."- Prof. J Britton,*Royal*College*of Physicians

*I would appreciate your response on this matter.

Hopefully they'll take note and fight against these farcical regulations. If not I'll see you when the revolution begins and we storm parliament and overthrow a government which sees fit to lie to its own people and tries to shoehorn in legislation which obviously serves the pharma/tobacco giants and itself, rather than the people it supposedly represents!
