So, been DIYing properly now for about 5-6 weeks. Thus far I have a folder of .txt files for deleted/aborted attempts which contains 20 failures. This is on top of my original half hearted attempt at DIY where I botched half a dozen or more flavours but my choice of flavourings was a little poor back then.
On top of that I've steeped a good few tobaccos for long periods of time and all of those yucked me out too.
I've also tasted a few top flavours such as King's Strawberry Crunch, MDV 666 and Grumpy's Hooch and rubbished those too.
I presently have only 4 vapes that I enjoy: King's Monkey Jizz, Dodgers, Double Chocco (Baileys and choc), 29AR (not great, but ok) and used to vape Snake Oil but have gone off that now.
I hoped to recreate my fav vapes above, thinking it would be fairly simple... Raspberry Dodgers? Why, that's simple... Sugar Cookie + Raspberry and we're done, right? Banana Custard? Simple... Vanilla Custard + Banana, right?
FUCKING WRONG, BITCHES. WRONG.
Using mainly Capella and a few staples (Dulce de Leche + Bavarian Cream, maybe English Toffee) I proceeded to make a wonderful array of burnt plastic flavours. Don't get me wrong, some weren't burnt, some had a nice melted plastic overtone with delicious, creamy burnt urine notes.
So here's my break down of the flavourings I've tried and what flavours spring to mind (bear in mind I have not vaped burnt urine or melted vomit, but it's as close as an analogy as I can find).
New York Cheesecake: AVOID - burnt vomit
ALL Capella chocolates: burnt urine (actual, literal smell was of the Jorvik centre in York, anyone who's ever been will know and should smell my room after a taste test of a Capella chocolate. Swear to god.)
Green Apple: Apple wrapped in plastic
Cake Batter: Burnt plastic grass
Cinnamon Danish: Cinnamon Soap
Dulce de Leche (PA): FUCKING HORRENDOUS - Burnt, plastic death
Bavarian Cream (PA): Burnt chemicals
Sugar Cookie: Not awful, I don't think, but not a bloody sugar cookie by any stretch.
Successes:
Currently doing ok mixing the Banana and Vanilla Custard (contrary to me saying that it's not that simple, it isn't just a straightforward case of cloning a vendor's vape, but you get a basic vague replica)
Also mixing Caps' VC with French Vanilla is ok.
Irish Cream also doing ok, but don't know what to add to it to bring out the 'cream' as I do not trust cream concentrates to not taste like plastic.
Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble I'm on the fence. Could be ok if worked on properly. Can otherwise taste perfumy.
What's in the pipeline:
Currently steeping: F'arts Butterscotch, F'arts Chocolate (please God let there exist a vapable choc), Flavor West Cinnamon Churro (again, please let there be a vapable cinnamon), DV Blackberry Crumble (this one smells of perfume so big doubts here), Cap's Graham Cracker (ditto a biscuit flavour).
I guess there comes a time when one has to admit defeat to the vendors and just buy their stuff. Ain't giving up yet. I'll hope that there are better concentrate vendors out there or better flavourings, or that some day a concentrate vendor will emerge that understands how to make vapable flavours rather than food additives that some people decide to stick in an atomiser.
I await the many responses of 'taste is subjective'. But take a moment to empathise. I've spent all my pennies, waited weeks and weeks, only to be met with damn near 100% failure, which does suck big time.
