Optical illusion.

The light areas you think are the prongs protruding on the left are actually the gaps between the prongs.

The fork is in silhouette, coming from the left.

OMG! I'm almost embarrassed. I wasn't expecting a fork that colour and it looks like the base of the unit in the background.
