Hello all.

I'm new to the forum, but have been vaping on an Aspire Zelos kit with a Nautilus 2 tank for about a year.

I have been using the 1.8 ohm coils at 10w, but recently decided to try the 1.6 ohm coils as I read I could use them at a higher wattage and get better flavour etc.

I bought a pack of 1.6 ohm coils, and replaced the 1.8, topped up with liquid (Vampire Vapes Heisenberg, 12mg) and left it for a good 20 minutes.

When I went to use it at 10 watts, the only thing I got was a horrible burnt taste from vape. I tried increasing the watts, but it got worse, so I lowered the power all the way down to 5 watts.

The burning stopped, and I got some flavour, but it's nowhere near as good as with the 1.8 coil.

Am I doing something wrong, or have I completely misunderstood how the coils work?

I am not sure if I have used the 1.6. I normally have used the 1.8 and the 0.7.

To me it sounds like either a dud coil which happens or that the cotton was not wicking.

Did you drip a couple of drops of eliquid down the hole onto the wick before you put it into the tank? If not I recommend always doing this.

If you did check that the ohms reading on the mod confirms it is 1.6. If it is higher it probably burnt. Finally you may need to swap the coil which is a bastard in a full nautilus 2 (hence why I rarely use them now).

When I put a new coil in I always start low for a bit to bed it in. So for this coil I would probably vape at 7watts and then increase by .5 watts every few puffs till I get to where I like the vape.

hi and welcome to the planet
when i first started vaping it was with the original nautilus and tried both coils and much prefered the 1.8 as for some reason 1.6 did burn out quicker but not on first pull. sounds like a naff coil which does happen. ive had 3 out of 5 of other makes of coils go straight in the bin.
if you want higher wattage how about the 0.7 as thats rated 18-23 watts.
one of the cheapest in the uk https://www.wholesalecoils.co.uk/ and use POTV18 for a further 5% off.

I used to love the 0.7 coils when I was vaping mtl and still bring the Nautilus 2 back out from time to time

I would also say it sounds like a dud. I would suggest trying a new one and seeing how that goes, if I remember correctly there is a validation code on the box the coils comes it, so you might want to check that if you keep having issues

1.8 coils are also rated by Aspire for a higher wattage than the 1.6...

Figure that one out eh?

That is weird - had to check myself. Still at 10 watts should have been within the 4.2volt max they claim.
