What's new

Need help choosing a new tank and battery.

@vapellie I like to be able to hold it without thinking, twiddling it with fingers etc.. I'm typing this message with it in my hands. Might sound daft! Here's a pic of current setup.

You're going to struggle to find something you can twiddle in your fingers that does what you want. Automatic batteries are a cigalike feature, I don't think it exists for more advanced equipment. You will get used to buttons very quickly, it will become natural.

Regulated tube mods (cuban cigar shape) are not very popular these days, there aren't many that will go over 40W, which is not enough for some of the new subohm tanks. They're not discreet either, you're generally looking at 22 mm width and at least 100 mm long. What do you mean by "powerful"? 40W is not a lot in the current market, where 80-200W is becoming standard, but compared to a cigalike 40W is massive.

I'd say discreet and powerful is box mod country, iStick pico perhaps?

@danb Thanks for the advice. Tube mod at around 40-50w sounds perfect for me. Are there no auto tube mods on the market and if not why not? P.s. The iStick Pico looks horrendous.

You have to hold the thing in your hand, I'm struggling to understand why it would be fiddly to press a nice slick button with the same hand?
As said, your really limiting your choice for no good reason. I don't know of any auto other than naff e lites et al

No I don't think automatic mods exits. It's not a feature people generally seem to want. I'm not sure how the automatic feature works, presumably it detects airflow and I guess the mechanism is not compatible with the airflow design of the larger tanks (which usually draw air through the side of the base, rather than through the bottom).

Next question is budget. Because regulated tube mods are far less popular than box mods, you don't have too many options in the 40W+ range and they are relatively expensive.

Some 40-50W tube options (various price points, cheaper usually means bigger):

Vamo V8 or V9 (40W)
Apollo VTube V4 or V5 (50W)
Simeiyue SMY40 (40W)
Dani Extreme V2+ (40W) = Pipeline Pro 2 plus (40W)
Smok BEC pro (50W)

Note: check reviews before buying, I am not intimately familiar with all of these mods. I have a pipeline pro 2 and it's excellent (but expensive).

P.s. The iStick Pico looks horrendous.

Haha, each to their own.

Perhaps something like the wismec presa might work as a happy compromise? The "button" is the entire side of the device, so you just have to gently squeeze your palm rather than pressing a fire button? It's not cylindrical, but it's a very sleek ergonomic little kit.

Agree with Wismec. I have one & just ordered another from FT with LABORDAY discount. The Kayfun Mini V3 looks good on it or something like Naturevape Mini if you want something smaller.

For the same reason I like that my laptop wakes up when I open it rather than having to press the on button. If there is a genuine technical/safety reason then fair enough. I'm stuggling to understand why pressing a button is viewed as better...

I didn't say it was better to have to press a button, I said I can't understand how you find it fiddly. It wasn't meant to come over arsey, just dont see it being at all fiddly.

@danb thanks for the product suggestions, I will check them out. Budget isn't an issue.

@tommywho5150 and @ossettbob thanks, will take a look.

If there really is a technical reason for a button at the mo then fair enough but I predict a compact, ergonomic, buttonless future ;-)
