Hello all, I'm Tom.
smoked roll ups on and off for years, the most recent spell being for about 3 years before deciding I needed to pack it up. I only smoked about 7 - 10 per day.
So I started vaping back in November / December, the first juice I got was pretty much the one I've stuck with, despite trying quite a few others, it's the only one I actually like - it's Hickory tobacco from paradise vape. I use an itaste v3, minimum settings, 11mg juice at 50/50. Tried some 100%vg but didn't like it.
ever since starting vaping I've had the much talked about dry mouth - used to take 1.5lt of drink to work with me - now take 3l and polish it off if I go over my 8 hour shift.
This in itself is annoying, especially waking up in the night for a drink / toilet, but bearable. However, 2 weeks ago I developed a canker in my lip, this is still there and I think there are 2 more on the way.
2 things may have caused the initial canker - a change of juice (another 50/50 from paradise vape) and a spit from my cig whilst inhaling my regular juice. I had tingly swollen lips for 2 days + the canker isn't really easing off - like I say - 2 more on their way.
i haven't vaped the new juice since the swollen lips. Sent paradise vape a message last week but no reply.
to be frank on I'm on the verge of going back to the roll ups, don't think I've got enough desire to give up completely, any advice please?

I dont know what a canker is, so cant comment on that..

But the cotton mouth usually passes, mine was terrible first few weeks, but now it seems much much better, I still seem to need to drink more, but not to the point its a problem, I find that juice with more PG than VG dries me out bad.. but you say you are on 50/50 which is what I aim for 60/40 VG/PG if I can..

I really would say, try your best to stick at it.. as smoking kills ya.. if you can sus out what works for you, living is a much better option..

Good Luck, Hope you dont give in..

Just googled it and found this..

Some cases of complex canker sores are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency; and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as Celiac disease and Crohn's disease.

Multi vitamins and zinc supplements are recommended by all health professionals, to anybody giving up smoking, so maybe this would solve your problem.. I dunno I aint no doctor lol..

I myself am still a newbie and have had a deep crack in the middle of my lower lip for at least 5 weeks now and it just will not heal up, and looks like there's another on the way!!! It hurts quite a lot because its so deep and when i awake in mornings its usually bleeding. My lips are often way too dry as well and the water drinking doesn't seem to ease this in my case. But saying that i would rather have that than the unending smokers cough 24/7 the hacking and spitting up and being constantly way out of breath, which i don't get from the vaping. i find also i can breathe more easily now and my chest feels clearer even though it is still early days for me. so i would say keep on vaping as it seems to be healthier than smoking, by far!!!

When you say minimum settings, what do you mean exactly? (what voltage wattage are you using?)

It is possible to have an atomiser/clearo overwicking and getting saturated when using lowish settings (if the coil isn't heating up far enough to atomise the liquid, then that might be causing droplets of unatomised liquid to be drawn up into the mouthpiece and onto your lips/into your mouth).

Have you tried a higher voltage/wattage setting at all?

Dry lips you need vasoline or something to help keep them moisturised.

Dont give up though. It may not be many a day, alternate and swap a cig for a vape and do that over a few months until you are no longer smoking.

You have a lot of chemicals that need to get flushed out your system. And see your doctor if the canks dont clear up soon, just for peace of mind ;)

Two suggestions I would make inline with the comments already made

  1. Increase your nic level to say 18mg/ml - that would mean you would need to vape less for the same nic hit.
  2. Stick the VV into watts mode and set it to 7.5 watts - try that and increase if necessary.
That will ensure that there is enough power to vapourise the ejuice with most cartos.
You also may want to try a high PG ejuice as some folks have an aversion to VG although that is rare and its usually the other way round.

Been at higher settings, only had the spit once at current settings. I think that's when the biggest sore has developed, the other 2 are in the same side of my mouth, but not directly related to the original spit. Currently set at 3.3 and 6.0, not sure which is which?
i've read about cankers / ulcers and cotton mouth in the first few weeks after switching to vaping, but I'm 4 months in and still suffering, that's the frustrating thing, never had an ulcer / canker until now.
not smoked a roll up this side of christmas
