What worked best for me was tobacco flavors at first, a fairly large amount of vapor, and something that immitated the whole smoking experience best i.e. taste, vapor, feeling on the lips, tightness of draw( kind of like in between MTL and DTL, usually referred to as loose MTL or restricted DTL), one setup that i really enjoyed was a mesh DTL coil and a tank with a cigarette sized 510 drip tip. stay away from any coils made by SMOK (i hear their new coils r better, but have never tried them so cant recommend them).
At first i liked the tobacco flavors but if u take to another flavor like mango or something, nothing wrong with that, whatever works for u.
For the first cpl weeks after u stop smoking, whether or not u are vaping u will still be having some cravings for a cigarette for no reason, just keep vaping instead.
U might also be coughing and possibly coughing stuff up from your lungs for the first cpl weeks. Thats normal.
If u find yerself craving a cigarette so bad u cant control it, usually means yer nic is not high enough strength. If u get a nic buzz everytime u vape lower your nic (or enjoy the buzz if u want (i find that particular buzz unpleasant)
Freemax brand and horizon brand coils are generally considered the best, altho vaporesso is a close third. Geekvape is also regarded as good quality coils. I would stay away from anything using the voopoo pnp coils, ive read of many ppl saying they leak.
Generally speaking mesh coils are the best, whatever form they are in, but not sure they are as common in MTL as they are in DTL (altho ceramic coils are very good as well, some ppl simply dont like them tho for various reasons)
Not all ppl r compatible with nic salts (also for various reasons) but imho work better when trying to quit and are less harsh at higher strengths as well as mimic the absorption rate of nicotine into your body as a cigarette.
Trying to think of anything else to know in the beginning, as far as the end goes i wouldnt know, for me there is no end.
if u get a device using an external battery NEVER trust the ratings printed on it, always buy a reputable manufacturer (Sony, samsung, molicell, maybe a few others) and always check mooch's review of it on the internet.(just google mooch's review of 'whatever battery').

Do u want something pretty or do want something u can drop in a puddle on the street and not break.
Do u think u would like to inhale the vapor like u are inhaling thru a small straw, or no restricion at all or something in between.
