Hello all. I'm new here so I thought I would say hi, so Hi!

Anyways the real reason I joined up here was to hopefully get a better understanding of vaping.

I've been a smoker now for about 11 years and I really want to cut down and eventually quit, I've tried a number of times in the past and its fairly difficult in all honesty. I smoke a mixture of Sterlin Red (at home) and roll ups using Golden Virginia (at work) so in total about 20 a day.

In the past I have used Elite E Cigs with the interchangeable cartridges, this was going well for about 2 weeks but had a number of issues, I found I did not get the desired 'hit' in terms of the feeling in the back of your throat and then I started to get headaches and feel pretty rough and decided to stop using it, which indeed stopped the feelings I was having, trouble is, I reverted back to cigarettes again and I have yet to try again with anything else.

So yesterday, at work, my manager pulls up and is smoking on some wired contraption (later I found out it was called a De Bang Stix) I was pretty curious so asked him what it was to which he told me about Vaporisers. This got me intrigued and he let me have a go using it and what an experience, it felt just like a cigarette in every sense, the warmth, the effect of smoke (being the vapour) and just the general sense of having taken a pull of a normal cigarette. So I headed home and have been non-stop searching for these things, which coincidentally led me to this forum. Google is handing me hundreds of sites and links etc about these devices and the more I look the more I get confused at how many there are, brands, models, sizes, flavours.... bending my mind a little to be honest. So now I do have some issues and a lot more questions then answers. I'm fairly adamant I want to try and give vaping a go so I signed up here in hopes that people can help me out. Sorry this is turning into a long post but I'd rather get as much info as I can before hand so I hope you can appreciate that :).

So in hopes of making this a little easier to understand I will list out the questions I have below. Thank you all for staying with me at this point.

  • Can anyone recommend an online reseller in the UK for starter kits and somewhere I could continue to visit for supplies. I've some across so many and I wouldn't know who to trust. Also which makes, models and features should I be considering? Price wise. I have whatever I need to spend.
  • How long would a battery charge last in terms of single inhalations from the device. The De Bang model has a 650 mAh battery for example?
  • Clearomisers, atomisers. I think I understand what these are, Clearomiser being the chamber for the fluid with an atomiser built in and the atomiser is the element for heating and producing vapour, but in terms of life span, would you change just the atomiser from time to time or is this only possible with certain Clearomisers?
  • I see chamber sizes vary, from 1.3ml up to how ever large they go. Most kits I see online come with a 1.5 to 1.6ml chamber, so again, how long would you expect in terms of single inhalations a full chamber to last?
  • Lastly is flavour. I can guess this would be a hard one to answer as I know its all down to personal preference, but do people try and stick with tobacco flavours when trying to switch from normal cigarettes or go straight to different flavours, or perhaps mix it up a bit? If so, can anyone recommend a flavour which is pretty similar to a cigarette, I've seen so many and obviously don't want to go and buy one of each just to try them out. The flavoured ones is probably more my choice and a lot of the time I can probably guess what I would or wouldn't like.

That covered pretty much all the things in my mind and I hope people can help me out here. I would totally appreciate any guidance.

Thanks again and I look forward to your answers.

Darren

You may want to take a look at the marketplace here (link in the tab bar at the top of the page). Most people seem to start with an Ego battery - which sounds pretty much like the one your boss has. You can get various sizes of those. I would recommend that you get at least two batteries in case one runs out on you. I'd also suggest a kit with Evod clearomisers rather than CE4 ones. A lot of people recommend myepack.co.uk for starter kits.

As to the e-liquid I'm not a big fan of tobacco flavours so can't recommend one of those. There are plenty of decent online vendors and there may be a B&M (that's bricks and mortar) shop near you where could try different flavours. If you tell us where in Kent you are then I'm sure someone can tell you where the nearest one is. Oh, and for online vendors be sure to check out the discount codes, also on the tab at the top.

The POTV Marketplacehttp://marketplace.planetofthevapes.co.uk/ is a great place to start as well as our Discount Codes page http://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/discount-codes

Battery life is dependent on a few things, going by puffs probably isnt a good comparison. a 650mah battery theoretically should last about 6 hours. But that all depends on how little or how much you use it.

Clearomisers, atomisers. I think I understand what these are, Clearomiser being the chamber for the fluid with an atomiser built in and the atomiser is the element for heating and producing vapour, but in terms of life span, would you change just the atomiser from time to time or is this only possible with certain Clearomisers?
Life span on these also depend on several variables. The PG/VG ratio of the juice, how dark it is (darker juices seem to clog the atomiser quicker) and how often you are vaping. Sometimes they last as little as 3 days, sometimes up to 2 weeks.

We dont really compare to inhalations as we're all different. But you should check out this ...its is a "breakdown" of mls to cigs. I use 3ml and its equal to about 12-15 cigs worth of smoking. It is by no means a scientific definate, but just a general guesstimated idea. http://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/6623-mg-per-ml-to-cigs-calc

Most new users want to stick with tobacco flavours as they assume it will help them stay away from the cigs, but soon discover going onto different flavours is actually better. Tobacco flavours do not taste anything like a cigarette, end of. Its also a pretty hard "taste" to replicate because of the removal of all th chemicals, tar, ash, burning, smoke... most tobaccos taste like how fresh tobacco smells.

Buy a few juices to try :) My dad is new vaper and he loves the Expresso flavours :)

Welcome. You did come to the right place. There's a lot to learn if you want to learn it but you don't need to know it all at once to get yourself started on vaping. Everyone here is on their own vaping journey. For the record, i gave up smoking with vaping & it was quite easy. I recommend a kanger evod starter kit. there's two of everything in it so you won't be left without a vape. Ask away !

Welcome to the planet buddy. You will love vaping mate, its changed our lives for the better and there are so many flavours out there. As for vendors, you can't go wrong with the POTV marketplace, they are all pukka in there bud. Enjoy :D

Lockett85 - all of the above advice is sound. My suggestion, if you can, get yourself to a shop and ask them for advice. Try the kit they have on offer, taste the juices they stock and listen to what they say.

Sure, you can save yourself a five, maybe a tenner by buying on line but the experience and knowledge of a shop based vendor is invaluable for someone in your position.

You can do all the research you like via the web, spending 30 minutes in a shop with a vendor is time well spent.

Once you have a stater kit you can then spend your leisure time surfing - unfortunately this will will make you want better kit, will make you want to spend money etc.

I started at a shop, the advice they gave was invaluable, even silly things like them saying I was likely to cough with my first vape "something that could be off putting" was helpful.

If you don't have a shop nearby, check out the starter packs on somewhere like myepack.

Oh, you are likely to feel a bit weird for a while, you mentioned feeling a bit rough - this is normal, its all the toxins and other shit in cigarettes - if your body isn't getting something it's used to, it will tell you.

When I started I had real problems sleeping and I felt crap for a few days. Once I got past that stage (and its enough to make you want to revert to cigarettes) you start to feel so much better.

Here's a thing, I just blew up 25 balloons without any issue. When I smoked I wouldn't have been able to do that without getting light headed.

If you want to give up buy a starter pack and grin and bear the first few days when you feel crap - it will get better and you will feel better.

Good luck on your journey

Cheers
