Hi

Just purchased a Smok OSUB 80W Baby Kit via Best4Ecigs, kit has arrived, now I need a battery, and it advises not to use a smartphone plug charger for the USB lead as it ‘burns the rechargeable battery out.’

Is this true ?

It doesn’t burn the battery out, but a lot of people would recommend using a charger rather than the built in usb. It might be okay if it’s only one battery your mod takes. Smok make devices with built in batteries that you can only charge via usb.

The kit comes with a USB cable that fits into the front, but the ‘Power end’ is a USB female connector that is to fit in a plug. I have had to purchase a separate battery before I can use the device.

But there is a leaflet that advises not to use a smartphone plug, and to buy an Ecig plug. I was just wondering if it was just a marketing ploy or it was true ?

Thank you for the advice though.

:hello:and :welcome1: to the planet.......
If i were you i would buy myself a external charger to charge the battery unless your battery is built in to the mod and cant be removed from the mod then you can use the usb lead........

Hiya

Thanks for the advice.

I have just purchased an Ecig plug for the USB lead, so I’m following the manufacturers advice.

Are you suggesting that I don’t charge the battery whilst it’s in the unit, but purchase a ‘charging bed’ instead, even though the charging lead is supplied to do it ?

Sorry for all the questions but I am very new to this.

Cheers

Hi @AlJones and welcome to the Planet.

As this takes a single 18650 battery personally i would say get an external charger or use the cable supplied to charge it internally.

for everything battery check out Fogstar https://www.fogstar.co.uk/
as its a lowish wattage mod i would say any 3000mah battery will do but everyone has their faves. i use samsung 30Q

this video is also worth a look.

ive only had one single battery mod which was 60w and a single battery only lasted 1 hour 10mins so a couple of batteries would be advisable with a small charger so you always have a fully charged battery to swap out.

SMOK and nearly all vape mod manufacturers design their mods so that the external batteries can be charged in-situ using a USB charging lead. I. for one would be, and have been perfectly happy to trust the designers of modern vape devices to make this way of charging, as safe as possible. I have a lovely 4 slot 18650 charger and use it a lot. I also regularly charge my Mods via USB and have had no problems in three years and dozens of mods.

Many vapers still don't trust mod manufacturers to produce a safe internal charger in their mods. I do, so you can choose to trust them or not.
