New to Vaping advice please

When charging a mod via USB, the mods charging circuitry decides on the max current flow, not the cable or the USB port that you plug it into (the USB port will have a max current limit depending on type). Not quite sure what you mean by "modern phone charger"

Any USB port that you plug your mod's charging cable into, simply provides 5v d.c. across pins 1 and 4.

Technical issues aside, and I'm no expert, my point was that if you don't have 100% confidence in the chip then you want the maximum current to be as low as possible.

I believe there are phone chargers that charge at 3a - it's fine to use one of these with a Yihi or Evolv mod, but I wouldn't trust a low end Smok mod to manage a 3a current.

I have a mag kit from smok and i always charge through the usb. My Grandson has a priv x and he charges with the charger. Both ways seem to work for us. Welcome to the forum.

Single battery mods are generally okay to charge via USB - but if it's your only mod then a spare battery and external charger gives far more flexibility as you don't have to plug it in to charge when your battery is flat. The charger will always charge the battery fully and correctly, I wouldn't put any faith in a cheapish mods charging circuit to do the same personally. I've very recently started charging my Yihi SX mini via USB purely as the battery cap is an utter ballache to get back on.

The issue arises with dual or more battery mods as quite often they don't have balanced charging on the boards which can result in unevenly charged batteries - I had a Joyetech Primo previously that I had to charge for a weekend as I forgot my charger; it would charge fully and stop charging but after 5-10 minutes of use one of the battery readouts would drop compared to the other, it had a facility where you could check the voltage in each battery and one would be a fair bit lower than the other - not good, especially if you use high power. Evolv and Yihi have balanced charging on their chips, but I'd always recommend an external charger for multi celled mods as they have proper balanced charging.

I don’t think there is such a thing as an ecig plug. As far as I understand the current to the battery is determined is determined by two things: the chip in the mod, and the limit of the wall plug. If the wall plug is capable of supplying more current than is good for the battery, it should be regulated by the charging electronics in the mod. I don’t think there is a standard current for charging mods by usb, is there? So I don’t understand what the difference would be between a mobile phone wall plug and an ecig one.

Cheers for that

I think it maybe the supplier just trying to up sale his equipment sales. Once bitten eh ?

Thank you all.

Hi

Just purchased a Smok OSUB 80W Baby Kit via Best4Ecigs, kit has arrived, now I need a battery, and it advises not to use a smartphone plug charger for the USB lead as it ‘burns the rechargeable battery out.’

Is this true ?
