New to Vaping advice please

your welcome. always someone around to give advice no matter how stupid you might think it is as its usually not so just ask away.

SMOK and nearly all vape mod manufacturers design their mods so that the external batteries can be charged in-situ using a USB charging lead. I. for one would be, and have been perfectly happy to trust the designers of modern vape devices to make this way of charging, as safe as possible. I have a lovely 4 slot 18650 charger and use it a lot. I also regularly charge my Mods via USB and have had no problems in three years and dozens of mods.

Many vapers still don't trust mod manufacturers to produce a safe internal charger in their mods. I do, so you can choose to trust them or not.

Thank you for that !

Feeling informed now.

As has been said charging via usb will be fine im sure. The more you vape though the more you will realise that if you can have a spare and an external charger to go with it the more you will appreciate it.

Nothing worse than going out for the evening and realising you have 10% left and then not having the time to wait to charge it. Pop in your charged spare and have a worry free evening ;).

Been there myself. Bought a few spare batteries and a decent charger and have never looked back.

I think it’s down to preference. I was always charging batteries for a year and a bit but I’ve rarely used my charger since about june last year when I got a few small, internal battery mods for taking on holiday. I realised charging them by usb is much less hassle for me than messing about with loads of batteries and a charger. I got a pico squeeze recently, an lg hg2 lives in it and it just gets charged brought the usb. It will likely be the same with the billet box I have on the way.

My battery charger only really gets used now for charging the aaa’s that power the singing and dancing toucan on the baby’s “multi gym”.

@AlJones I think mods with more than one battery are a different story, in those cases I think most people advise using a charger. Just in case you ever upgrade.

The issue is that modern phone chargers charge at a high rate, and while a good battery can handle it, the chip on the mod may be poor and can't manage it properly.

To be safe, check the output current on the charger and don't use one above 1.0 amp, or use a laptop or PC.

Sorry i never got back to you as i was not on line but it seems you got the advice you needed from other apes so thats good if you have any other questions you need to ask just ask away it does not matter how stupid you think the question is just ask and someone will be able to help after all we were all new to vaping at some point well good luck and hope you enjoy your vaping journey @AlJones .........

When charging a mod via USB, the mods charging circuitry decides on the max current flow, not the cable or the USB port that you plug it into (the USB port will have a max current limit depending on type). Not quite sure what you mean by "modern phone charger"

Any USB port that you plug your mod's charging cable into, simply provides 5v d.c. across pins 1 and 4.

Hi and welcome to the planet.

I use built in mods and seperately externally charged battery mods myself. I'm not sure why so many folks fear the built in ones though. i've use 2 built in mods for a year now..and they're fine. I've charged those with an appropriate usb cable (the ones that came with the mods), via my laptop, a mains powered USB adaptor..even the USB port in a car...all fine.

The only advice i'd give with charging built in mods, is don't leave it on charge for hours..do check the mod regularly whilst on charge, and especially don't leave on charge over night.

I don’t think there is such a thing as an ecig plug. As far as I understand the current to the battery is determined is determined by two things: the chip in the mod, and the limit of the wall plug. If the wall plug is capable of supplying more current than is good for the battery, it should be regulated by the charging electronics in the mod. I don’t think there is a standard current for charging mods by usb, is there? So I don’t understand what the difference would be between a mobile phone wall plug and an ecig one.
