Hello People,

New convert to the vaping. 4th day and still going strong - no real ciggies in 4 days is like a record. I had open box of benson dual's just sitting there and not been tempted even once so far to even touch them. So after a lot of reading on things I simply did not understand I went for the keep it simple approach and got myself (from naturevape) the Gizmo Stealth Mod 24mm (silver) and the midi NV tank. I went for gizmo simply because it looked easy to take apart and Midi tank was easy to wick from the videos on youtube. I am beginner so simplicity is everything to me. I wanted to be able to dismantle the device very quickly, if I could do this then I knew I would not have any doubts when using the device as i really wanted to quit real smoking ASAP.
I also bought eGo kit mainly for home use and something different. Gizmo for outside and eGo for home.
4 days in and I will be wicking my midi and mini in due course. Pretty simple...yes I did practice to on a spare coil.

So I have a few questions I am hoping someone can help me with:

1. How do you know when to change the wick?
2. How do you know when to change the coil?
3. A friend has seen my conversion to vaping and wants to move to. He asked if there was any mechanical mods that was around £30-£50 mark. Any recommendations? Tank wise he already ordered the NV midi and mini after playing around with.
4. Gizmo uses 18500 batteries. I usually change out my battery every day but discovered what kicks are. Should I seriously get one? I know I can file down the bottom batter part of the gizmo and fit one in (read in forums its been done quite easily). Also site where to get this from would be great.
Note...in UK so prefer UK sites if possible.

I converted over to vaping to because I was sick of spending £40+ per week on ciggies and the smell, my own sense of smell was so bad that I could not detect a gas leak in my house. Hopefully vaping will allow me to smell better.

Just one single complaint...when I was seeing people reviewing the mods, some of them has so many mods in the background...never did work out why until I moved over. The unwritten rules seems to be you can never have enough tanks/atties and battery life. I have a midi and mini thinking that was alot...I am already thinking of getting at least another cheap mech mod and NV tank (must have 18500 battery) as I live on artice ice menthol, alchemist mentally menthol and I need a third for the 'testing stuff'.

Ah...and the most important advantage of all...my aftershave actually lasts all freekin day. I mean seriously I stink of the stuff in a good and happy way.

Hello everyone. Be nice. Might be a newbie on vaping not a newbie in many other things.

At and end this post if enough so it was:whiteflag:

Hello bhoot, welcome to the forum!
1. Depends on what kind of juice you use (e.g. custards gunk up wicks more quickly), but you'll want to change when you notice the flavour diminishing - about a week is typical.
2. With NV heads, the coils can last for months - just keep changing the wicks.
3. Generally, it's recommended to start on an electronic mod (e.g., iStick, MVP or Ego) rather than a mechanical, as best to know about battery safety, Ohm's Law, etc., before trying a mechanical.
4. I've not used a kick or Gizmo (nice!), so will leave for others to comment.
All the best!

RabD...1. Okay. You know I use to get bemused when I read this in vaping reviews/forums but totally understand.
2. Really? Nice. I've written a little 'review' of changing the wick for the first time ever by a newbie below
3. I seriously considered this but...my friend...the beauty of the Gizmo was so hard to resist. As a guy I openly admit I did coo around it first time but its really really nice.
4. Okay. Will look into kicks and see what happens. I dont have an immediate concern and I am swapping out batteries daily. I have 3x 18500's from Efest that I cycle and have an xtar dual-battery charger I bought from Amazon for £10 inc free delivery. Reliable so far and no issues. Just a side note...extremely cautious about charging my ego, always make sure I am nearby. 18500 - not so much, charger is well made and has decent safety features and brand reliable but only got comfortable after watching like an eagle for the first few days and every charge.

So...today I actually changed the wicks of both the NV Midi and Mini. Midi I have been vaping for I'd say 6 days solid overall and mini was 3-ish days but changed flavours several times on the mini, only 2 on the midi. Anyways...do there are 2 really good YouTube clips that showed how to do it and I have spare coils so could see what needed to be done. So you...few things first...getting a bit of liquid on your finger or hand will not kill you immediately, just wipe it off. I never use a cloth, always use andrex quilts - thick tissues and not that porus and most importantly, easy to dispose of when things go wrong.
Midi - wick was medium dirty but I think this more colouring than from use. I tested a 18mg Alchemist Banana flavour and kind was brown coloured so its more colour than anything. I cleaned the coil but simply putting on my ego and cleaning it like that. I also took apart the Gizmo completely and gave it a really good clean all over as some liquid as leaked from a mishap before. Am I strange that I cleaned the screw grooves until they gleamed?
Mini - wick was actually very very clean. Still practically brand new and this was after 3 days of heavy test vaping on it. I am using 4.2/4.3v.

Few things I learned:
1. Stop being challenged about few left over drops of previous liquid when changing liquid. Really makes little to no difference. Emptying in the sink and cleaning fill holes properly is enough. No need to open it all open and super clean it unless u feel like it. I will most like clean the tank properly next time.
2. NV Wicks is very easy. Midi took me a bit of time as I was not in a hurry and was actually learning for real. Mini on the other hand, took a few mins tops and that was mostly cleaning open liquids from the parts more than anything.
3. eGo's dont have much or a learning curve. Mechanical's like my Gizmo do.
4. New wicks = always better vape but the question is how often? Personally I will be going the following timetable:
#Every Saturday - Gizmo full clean. Tank full clean + wick. NV mini tank full clean.
#One day a week I will simply spend 20-30mins cleaning the entire kit and tanks in one hit.
5. Liquids. In my opinion, liquids strengths are as follows - rough guide according to my experience:
18mg = Gold benson / Rothmands (24mg is Dunhill)
12mg = Camel Lights / Silk Cut / Marlboro Lights
6mg = Benson Silver / Benson Duals
6. What juices? What company?
Mystic Juice Artic Mentol 6mg is my primary main. Always have this in my Gizmo now. Need to stock up. Very nice all around.
Icelits or something - very dry hit, feel stronger than it is.
Alchemist Cupboard. 18mg and 12mg. 18mg was first vaping I ever did. Too strong for me. 12mg still strong but okay. Mentally menthol tested mostly.
Vapology. Got this today. Letting is steep until Friday/Saturday then will do (double flavour 40PG/60VG) Peach>Coconut>Banana>Menthol. 6mg all.
7. I am not interested in building coils so naturevapes tanks suit me fine.

lockie...true but I see the boxes everyday and its my personal test. If I am not tempted at home then the probability is that I will refrain when outside. If you resist when its the easiest choice, you left shadow of your first step.

Now...the most important and dreaded ordeal of them all. Image if my Gizmo has problems on the way to work...how do I survive the entire day without resorting to real ciggies? I am considering 2 options. Buy a 3rd always in the bag backup. Prefer something that takes 18500 batteries I can share with gizmo, not bothered if its mechanical or not but tank will be its own dedicated NV midi on it. Size wise, it will need to be on the smaller side. Looking around and see what i can find. Alternative option is to buy another Gizmo but I dont trust myself...I'd be vaping different flavours during the day and use them both equally...these devices are plain awesome but expensive as well.

Much to learn I still have but am getting to know the basic quite well. Keeping simple timetable for everything means things should tick over.

Sounds like you're getting along well! Re the above:

There's a lot of info on this site (and others) on using mechs and staying safe. Gizmo is a well made mod, but it's sensible to know a fair bit about batteries and how they work.

A few drops of e-juice isn't dangerous for you, but make sure kids and animals can't get your stash. I read of a puppy which croaked when it chewed its owner's e-cig, and of a woman in US who fell asleep holding her e-cig; it leaked, she absorbed the nicotine through her skin, she woke up and was hospitalised.

On cleaning tanks when changing juice: it depends on the juices. Follow a menthol with a subtle flavour, and what you will taste is - menthol!

For juices: have a look around the site for what people like. I've not had a bad juice among those recommended here (and not yet had a really good juice from a local B&M). But taste is subjective!

For a back-up: your ego will do fine. If you want a small VV/VW mod, the E-leaf iStick is getting a lot of praise.
