Nicotine and IVF

My wife and I were both referred for IVF, of I remember correctly we both used to vape at that time, my wife stopped shortly after that. They test for carbon monoxide, at the time they tested only my wife, she had to blow in a machine and she passed.
Edit: she was using a subox at the time, about 3ml of 12mg liquid a day, so if you are a more heavy user you may have to lower your usage, but again I have no idea if heavy vaping will affect your tests.
Good luck with the treatment.
IF it is just a carbon monoxide breath test surely it will only give a reading if you are inhaling something that's burning? (Spoiler alert - if something's on fire when you're vaping you're probably doing something wrong)

A CO breath test still depends on carboxyhaemoglobin since it measures the carbon monoxide that dissociates from your haemoglobin to be exhaled in much the same way that carbon dioxide is exhaled and oxygen is inhaled. Haemoglobin is the key (not just a Placebo reference) since it is this molecule that is vital for gas exchange. CO is slightly different because it binds haemoglobin with much higher affinity than either oxygen or carbon dioxide hence that's why CO is such a dangerous gas and why high flow or hyperbaric oxygen is the only treatment for CO poisoning.

POTV:- Come for the vaping, stay for the CPD!

Vapers will pass a CO breath test as vapour has no CO in fact total abstinence from cigarettes or cigarette smoke for 24h can almost lower your carboxyhaemoglobin levels to near normal :D

Hi, I am new to this site.. and new to vaping!!
Just wondered how this all went for you and if you have any more info you could offer myself and husband who will soon be faced with this situation as our referral for IVF begins?

Many Thanks in advance for anything you may be able to advise us on x

I don't know if this is a question that can be answered here, but it's worth a shot.

One of the reasons I decided to try quitting cigs again was because me and my better half have been referred for IVF and they simply won't do it on the NHS if you are a smoker. Apparently they test you for it ... I'm happy with that, I find that vaping is the perfect replacement for it and I don't even crave a cigarette. No issues there, I haven't been cheating lol.

Anyway, we've been on the waiting list for ages and I know I should've pulled my finger out and quit sooner, but today we've been told that we've got our first appointment at the IVF clinic in little over three weeks (7th April to be precise) and my Mrs is now on my back about getting on the 0mg nicotine liquids. I currently use 3mg Nic juice as I am a sub-ohmer.

Can anyone can shed some light on whether vaping nicotine based juice will be a problem with the IVF clinic? I assumed they test for carbon monoxide in the blood which would be an obvious indicator of combustion (which you obviously wouldn't have with vaping) so i thought I was safe, but she tells me now that someone suggested that it's not just a CO2 test and that I should be off the vaping well before the appointment ... nooooo!

I will go down to 0mg Nic if I have to, but I really don't want to yet as I don't think I am ready (only quit 9 weeks ago)

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated :)

Me and my lady are currently going through IVF.

I was vaping and went back to smoking a couple of days before the eggs where taken after a night out drinking.

While my lady was sat in her hospital bed waiting to have the eggs extracted I went to another room to give my contribution. When I went back to the ward where my lady was the nurses dragged me into another room for a smoke test which I failed and they sent me back to my lady. 30 mins later me and my lady where pulled into another room together and told the treatment was being terminated and that there was also a smell of cannabis in the room where I had given my contribution. (My friend asked me to roll him a joint the night before as he was too drunk and not thinking, I wore the same jacket to the hospital) I was told that at this stage of the treatment they don’t test for smoking as people have usually quit by then but it was because they smelt the cannabis in the room I had briefly occupied.

My lady was heartbroken after all she put up with, the moods, injections etc. We now have to have 3 counselling sessions, one each separately and one together as well as “wellness check” with our doctors and they will Carbon monoxide test me at every appointment but at least we get to start the treatment again providing I can pass the tests.

I know what you’ll say, it’s my own fault I know, which is why I’m back on the vape and I accept that, but just be aware folks that seeing your partners heartbreak in front of you like that is gut wrenching and not an experience you ever want to witness so keep on vaping and don’t slip back to the ciggies.
