I’m using the Smok mini V2 tank with bottom airflow and it’s as wide as I can get it and still a bit restricted! Would like 0 resistance as I have big lungs and like to take full breaths.
Not sure if I’m making sense?

you are making sense, can only talk of what I have used and most of the stuff is quite old. i mostly buy stuff used . i am top airflow person and most of them are quite restricted, vapefly horus is amazing as airflow but 0 flavour. the zeus dual has wide airflow but tricky to get flavour. zeus x is considered worse... you need a single coil in order to keep power low and you get good cloud and flavor from single coil also. dig through reviews with salt as most of the reviews say more good things than they really are. will see what other apes advise.

I was hoping to find an RTA as i think it would be cheaper in the long run to rewick an RTA than to keep replacing coils because of burnt cotton?

you are correct, stock coils will be more expensive in the long run . i would advise to look for a first version single coil geekvape zeus. should be cheap enough to be worth the try. i advise on top airflow tanks for the beginning due to the risk of leaking. i have experience but still don't bother with botton af as you never know when it leaks on you.b

Thanks for that was gonna jump into mesh RTAs but after reading some of the old threads here I’m thinking I need to start from the beginning and work my way through and learn a few bits.

There's mesh coils and mesh as a wick - the older the thread is the more likely it's on about mesh wicking. I've attempted mesh wick and really can't get on with it at all (and I only use rebuildable atomisers, except for a couple of pods).

A mesh coil and cotton wick rta should be dead simple.
